28 gauge

Yeah, but I'm about to cross that line. I won't go out of state and pay for tame birds but I'm getting pretty tired of spending half my hunt Knocking on doors or trying to run people down only to be denied. Or worse yet, going to the same old places that I have permission and not seeing birds. I don't have that many good years left so I'm about to open up the old wallet...My problem is trying to find someone like minded to go with me. bunch of tight asses.
I don't hunt with people that are really tight with money, but I also don't believe in paying farmers to hunt. I don't believe in that. People who won't pay for a motel, or buy a steak, or pay for gas, those type of ass grabbers aren't going to hunt with me. You have to be willing to spend some money on a pheasant hunt.

How much does your cousin spend on you?

Just returned from two week trip hunting in SD. I use non-tox exclusively as there are a lot of State Wildlife Areas where I hunt. I hunted with my CZ Sharptail 28ga side by side for all 13 days (weather made me skip one day). #5 and #6 Bismuth worked well. I did reload some #8.5 tungsten last year and started using it for my second shot, if one was necessary. It is lethal out further than I'm comfortable with, but if I take the shot, the bird comes down. Broken wings, legs, most pellets pass clear through out at 65 yards plus. Too expensive to use exclusively though.

Glad you had a good trip, love your results with
the 28 gauge! What chokes???

Good luck, and good for you. To me, it’s like paying to golf on a great private course vs playing the muni…not a golfer, but I get it.

My buddy says its like paying for a hooker. Its a fake sure thing but otherwise you can't get any out in the wild. What's a hooker without a John though right? To each they own. I don't care what anybody does with there own money.

I don’t rely on “things” to get me permission…I rely on myself…much is done on the phone, anyway…most of the spots I want access on don’t have inhabitants on them anymore…kind of a trend these past 50+ years…
When you pull into a farm they know why you are there before you even get to the farm. If you are driving a 30-year-old truck, and you're wearing jeans and a beat up flannel shirt, and you look like you're retarded, you might just get permission to hunt there. You drive up in a Gucci, brand new suburban, you might get permission, but you are going to get charged money.

Lost one with the 870 yesterday, took a long shot,it was the only shot I got all day.Highly preasured public land. I could go back and look for that one the next day, but some critter probably got him.

Don’t pull that…you’re a sharp dude…
He reminds me of an old guy I encountered when I owned my remodeling business. Showed up in an old car and older clothes and asked me about coming by and giving him a price on some work. My helper at the time commented he doubted that he could afford us. I told him I thought maybe he was trying too hard to downplay his life. We ended up doing over 100k of work for him and his sister. Turned out in conversation he had owned a fairly large business and was a multimillionaire when that was more of a rarity. I think he is old money…. I think his dad was the president of Montana or something
