2025 Season

Glad to hear progress going on harvest.

Hoping to go back to original question on this post? Any of you know any youth that got out and hunted? Somebody said one kid got two birds but that’s the only response?
Mine are off to college so this is my first year without a youth hunter in the house. I resorted to guiding my nephews kids, the dogs appreciated the action. Helps to be with kids that know how to shoot. Limits each time we were out. This was in Turner & McCook counties. Not exactly the heart of pheasant country but they got their birds and plenty of excitement. Didn't see an over abundance but good for that area. One remarkable thing, some of them were noticeably heavy for this years birds. Early hatch/eating right? They felt like lifting a late season.

We had to create a diversion so the maid wouldn't see us.
What I have found is put the do not disturb card on the door then when you leave put a decent tip on the bed. Amazing how forgiving the maid is when she is putting a few bucks in her pocket. I have never had a complaint yet about dogs. Cheaper than the 15-20 a night they try to gig you for

Earlier this week while sharptail hunting I gave a cleaning lady a rack of ribs that come from a place out in the woods near Duluth, 40 miles away…the next day she brought us 4 amazing tomatoes and 3 mason jars of homemade preserves…peach, grape (grapes came from her own garden), and apple…haven’t tried the apple, the others were great! Fun to make friends via good food…they loved the ribs. Left her and her hubby cash, too, he cleans with her…70? 75?…neat folks. We stay in a motel that has a 5 plex a block away that have kitchens and parking in the backyard where there are grills, bird cleaning tables, tables and chairs for beer drinking and grilling, etc…nothing extravagant, a bit rough, but it works well, and dogs in the rooms are encouraged no charge. Great to make friends with the locals that make everything possible…great folks!

That sounds like a good place. They own the cooking/cleaning building?

No, different state, but I buy these ribs frequently and gift them to farmers, friends, you name it…they’re smoked and sauced and foil wrapped…$22 for a large, healthy rack of pork baby back ribs…they reheat nicely on a cookie sheet…common to hear ā€œbest ribs ever!ā€ Grabbing 3 racks tomorrow and driving 2 hours to Aitkin, Mn to visit a former hunting pal…76…Parkinson’s…bad deal…great guy, was my doctor, too, until he retired in 2012. The cleaning lady in SD will get a rack next week…I gave her a rack last year, and she called me 5 minutes after I killed my limit of roosters in about 10 minutes in a small chunk of CREP…her call made me happier! ā€œBest everā€ā€¦the best part is that it solves the supper conundrum…this gal had a retail store in Mitchell, and rolled in at 7 pm and still had the supper chore, not sure what her hubby is up to…$22 accomplishes a lot when it provides a meal they love and they only need to reheat it. There’s about 7 farmers in my little area who get them regularly…Duquette, Mn…hwy 23…so good!!
