2025 gear review...what worked and what didn't?

I bought myself a Cabela's Instinct Prairie Runner Upland Coat as an early Christmas present. Was looking for a few things at Cabelas and tried it on and really liked the range of motion, and it has other good features. It was $250 Canadian, and I was not ready to spend that. The next day I found they had an online sale for $130!

Looking forward to trying it out on a hunt.

Lowa Ranger III GTX boots. Bought from Sierra Trading Post for $109 last spring. Normally a $300-$350 boot. Made in Germany. Hunted antelope, mule deer, and pheasants in them this fall. Wear them often to kids school events and just general knock around. Love them.

I’ve got more boots than I’ll ever be able to wear out and always looking for the next better pair. Like my guns.

keep an eye on STP and you can get some primo gear for cheap.

I bought the coat and pants once they went on sale. Coat was 120. Pants were 80 US.

I have used the pants, one time. Found them to not like briars. But time will tell. I do not expect them to last. In SD type hunting, they would be fine. They were comfortable to move around in. More than warm enough with a base layer (20 F with a 20 MPH wind) I will wear them tomorrow also (15 F with lighter winds).

Have not yet received the coat. Expect it Jan 2 after 2 delays.

I have used Lowa boots on the farm, very good boots.

I have both the Meindel Ultra lights and the Hoka’s. They both work really good for me. I wear the Meindel’s in the morning for the heavy part of the walking day and if it’s dry and no snow, I wear the Hoka’s for the afternoon hunt. Super light and comfy
I bought a pair of Meindl Ultra Lights and didn’t like them at all! They leaked the second time I wore them and were extremely uncomfortable. $120 wasted since they wouldn’t take them back since they had been worn. How would you know they leaked I& you didn’t wear them?

That’s areal drag! Mine have been good so far, as well as 2 of my hunting buddies. Will they exchange on warranty?

Man, that's too bad. I gave up long ago trying to find upland boots that don't leak. I have not owned a pair since the original rocky corn stalkers. I just hope for a season or two without leaking. If it's really wet or melting snow, I'll wear rubber. Both my Meindl ultra lights leaked after a season or two. But I still really like them.

I don’t worry too much about leaky boots. I’ll also cross a thigh deep creek if it means getting the wind right! Sure it’s cold at first but surprising how soon you warm up with a bird in the bag.
