Troy you've never commented and I would never expect you to - but man I'd sure love it if you could be running KDWP or some part of it.
Probably a thankless job but as has been hashed out here nothing can be accomplished when politics, money and wildlife all get mixed in --
I personally...
I'd bet my paycheck he has better soil health, biologic diversity and the list goes on at his place -- hence the reason for more upland numbers -- upland birds are the canaries in the coal mine -- if they're doing well - many other species are going to do well too.
Yes -- this is and will be...
No one said they dont care about non residents -- My point was that it could turn around and we could have a great supply of a limited resource (that is upland hunting) -- it would attract non residents and re-activate non residents alike.
As you alluded SD has the model for this - KS could...
I dont have the time at the moment to find some of the economic studies -- If I recall correctly there are some out there -- but when I mean look at upland hunting globally -take a 100k ft view instead of close up.
You're drilling in on non resident sales.
I dont care about that and anyone...
That's too bad -- it will only get worse as the 70/80 yr olds age out and the millennials take over or dont want to work and sell it to some Bill Gates type.
The ignoramus and small minded view which is that of the ones in control is deer
Upland birds have a far greater economic impact if you look globally at the economic impact and # of people that can partake in such a resource if it's healthy -- Ask South Dakota -- and simply look at...
Do you think he'd be willing to leave it in CRP if he was paid by someone or a group of hunters leasing it? (I'd be interested depending on location)
Anyways I went to ND with my brother end of Oct -- mother nature didnt treat us well but we had fun -- we ran into one farmer and spoke with...
I'd seriously like that -- Him and my dad are the reasons I like the outdoors (hunting/fishing) -- I inherited some of his guns when he passed. They (my grandparents) were essentially forced to move away I think around WWii or so to find a job after he lost the farm and ended up in the Wichita...
Weather made us move out of the area of ND we were in and we tried SD -- I wasnt that impressed - but in ND did have a couple people come up on us pretty quickly for parking in front of their land and getting out of our truck (I had seen pheasants and parked a long ways (1/4 to half mile) away...
I've never hunted Nebraska but the area you posted about caught my attention -- Both of my grandparents (both passed away in 2000 and 2003) - grew up in the Holdredge area and both of their families had farms there - My grandpa wanted to take over his but when his dad passed an aunt forced the...
Aberdeen tried that one and a half days. Yuck. Full of swamps and the entire countryside is coated in roundup w no cover. Everything mowed and full of most likely non native cool season grasses like brome and fescue. Probably have to commercial hunt or take a lab to a swamp w cattails to see...
Probably Kiowa or Edwards or somewhere around there? Its all went to shit -- I'm in S Dakota and this place is a joke -- weather chased us out of N Dakota -- if we dont see much tomorrow I'm never coming back to this state. The walkin here is a bigger joke than KS -- we drove to 20-30 that...
Near Topeka proabably dont want to know how much rain we've been getting - since Oct/November or somewhere in there pretty consistent - this past week rained twice and thursday night/evening all night into morning off and on with some downpours where I live - and some hail and wall clouds...
Those I;ve found best to do the shimmy shuffle on the ground flat on my back --drop my vest on the other side and set gun on other side or slide it under.
Always check for cactus or burrs before placing hands or laying on the ground...ha. Worth walking to a for sure spot to cross.
K state is an Ag school -- do you in your right mind think they'd put anything out that goes against big ag they likely receive money from or would ruffle the feathers of the more sensitive ag producers?
I thought you had more common sense than that. Are you sure your account has not been...
Because those fields weren't full of GMO crops, soybeans, very likely had lots of forbs, and insects, and food (native plants -- the weeds farmers hated) working in harmony with mother nature. Now not so much.
Based on the photos and YT vids I've seen Montana would be high on my list -- Never really been highly motivated to leave KS during the season -- can't this year but the way things are around here if I want out of state I'd leave now during our bird season.
MT would be a lot closer to you -...
