Ft Riley

Curious if anyone here has hunted the Ft Riley area (both on and off post). Had a couple of questions just wanted clarification on.

I have but it was back around 2001/2002 IIRC. Found some interesting stuff in the various areas. Empty ammo boxes (always handy), belts of 7.62x51 MG blanks, belts of .50BMG blanks.

Even found some quail and pheasant.

In the early 2000s you could just drive right onto the north side of the base once you had your base hunting license and registered your guns. I highly doubt it is that way any longer. We were scouting one day and passed a "now entering impact zone" sign and moments later a tank passes us as we were trying to get turned around. Talk about getting some stares on that one! Its probably worth checking out, we used to see all kinds of stuff out on there as well and even hear the occasional elk, never did see one though. Good luck and I'm guessing it's a little more controlled these days.
