One Hell of a Last Chukar Trip

Yes it is! I can only manage one trip per week because my body just doesn't recover like it did once upon a time. My legs feel like jelly for at least 4 days after a Chukar outing. The chase is pretty addicting though and I truly love seeing my dog work these birds. Not to mention, they are...

Definitely the Last Trip of the Year

Myself and three friends made one last trip to chukar country this weekend. It was a tough hunt, snow, wind and cold as hell. We all limited out but worked hard and fell multiple times.

That would have worked for sure. I will use that if something like this happens again.

One Hell of a Last Chukar Trip

I don’t mind at all. We were hunting north western Utah.

One Hell of a Last Chukar Trip

I went out on what might be the last trip of the year and it turned out to be the best of the year. We really got lucky, the dogs did their jobs and some timely shooting. My quads are killing me today but wow. I did have a first for me. We all met up and transferred gear into another truck...

    Turn out the lights

There are still a few weeks of chukar hunting here in Utah. I'm at least going this weekend and perhaps one more before that shuts down for the year. This season has been pretty damn good for chukar in Utah. We need another cooperative spring and then hope that the insects are plentiful...

One Last Trip to Eastern Oregon January 11-15

What an eventful trip. We arrived in good shape. My son in-law and his friend drove from Portland to meet us. He immediately ripped both of his ammo pouches completely on a barbed wire fence. He didn’t notice until all of his shells had dropped out in the snow. So the rest of the trip he wore...

One Last Trip to Eastern Oregon January 11-15

I have been convinced to go on a quail and chukar trip next week by my son in law. I don't know if the word "Doofess" is universally understood but that is my best description of him. At the time that he married my daughter, he had never hunted or fished. 8 years later, he has a lot of...

    New guy from Iowa

Welcome from Utah. Yours is the second hunting Golden Retriever that I've seen in my life. The first one is pretty incredible as an upland hunter and retriever. Her only problem currently is that she is an 80 pound dog and 8 years old. The weight and age are taking it's toll on her body...

    Stevens 560 opinions, insights, experiences

Stevens has a new shotgun out this year a very inexpensive semi auto. I had a Stevens side by side when I was a kid and really shot that gun well and put a lot of rounds through it. I am looking for a good back up gun and would like to hear from anyone who has handled one of these.

    3rd Eastern Oregon Trip.

Most of eastern Oregon is public land. We typically have OnX with us and stop when we find public land that looks right and go hunting. Better than 1/2 the time we find quail and chukar in the same habitat.

    3rd Eastern Oregon Trip.

Had a pretty incredible trip to Oregon. I shared the only picture of the trip from the 2nd day. Lots of birds around and even managed to kill a few chukar. My dog is a 6 year old Griffon and she had a couple of really great breakthroughs this season. She was able to point and hold several...

    A different kind of Thanksgiving

My wife and I decided to get away from civilization for Thanksgiving, so we went to Lake Powell. The weather was pretty good for this time of year. It rained one day and was clear and about 50 degrees for the remainder. Lots of striped bass and lots and lots of shad. Caught fish in two types of...

    2nd Trip to Eastern Oregon

Had an interesting 2nd trip to Eastern Oregon. We had a great first day. I limited on roosters (2 birds) and limited on quail (10 birds). So, on day two we decided to go back to a Wildlife Management Unit south of Drewsey Valley (west of Juntura). We hunted it a couple of years ago and there...

    All My Shotguns

I bought my first shotgun at 15. I was working on a farm in eastern Oregon and saved up my entire summers wages to buy a Niko 12 gauge pump back in 1983. It fit me well and I shot it for years and shot it well. Since then I have bought and sold many shotguns, not as a collector but trying to...

    Blood Lust

It was pretty incredible. 4 of us went, we stayed 3 days and killed 120 quail (limit), 9 roosters and 1 Hungarian partridge. If you need some help to some general locations let me know. The Huns were a surprise. We kicked up three coveys of Huns and got one. I found a spot that had more...

    Where to go in December?

If anyone is interested in a different upland experience check out eastern Oregon. Lots of quail and chukar on public land. Fairly liberal limits, 10 quail and 8 chukar daily.

    Blood Lust

Eastern Oregon is absolutely a riot for quail and chukar. This last weekend we were commonly seeing coveys of 50 birds and ran across one covey that easily had 100 birds in it. What was pretty cool was the number of quail that still had pin feathers, they were tiny and could barely fly.
