Mountain Lion

Manhattan Sighting!!!

Two residents in the Blue River Hills development (near Stockdale Park at Tuttle Creek) witnessed a mountain lion casually strolling through the neighborhood yesterday. I heard from a neighbor (of one of the witnesses) that the cat walked within 30' of a mother and her two children. The mother called another neighbor, who also saw it before it wandered off.

Hopefully it was just cruising the neighborhood for stray cats and toy poodles, and nothing else.

My dad worked as a switchman for the Katy railroad and Union Pacific for years in SEK, they had pretty regular sightings of mountain lions in Kansas.

Funny how everybody seems to see them here in Kansas yet Colorado has an estimated 5000-10000 but very few ever see them in that state. Trail cams tell the real story. Most monster deer are seen on trail cams and not by the human eye. So I am sure it holds true with the kansas mountain lion herd. I am sure we have an occasional lion traveling through but they are not behind every bush.

Okay, lets here from the experts and observers of this elusive cat. What are your thoughts on the states population? Do we have 1 cat per county? 2 per county? At 3 per county that leaves a population of 315 in Kansas. Now what do you think your chances of seeing one are? I seriously doubt that we have 1 per county. There maybe 1 cat that ventures through a dozen counties in a months time. That seems more realistic. So your chances of winning the lottery or getting hit by lightening are much greater than seeing a mountain lion in Kansas. Some of you that claim to have seen are misleading yourselves.

well why don't you tell us thoughts oh great one? :D Since you seem to be the local Mountain Lion know it all.

I don't believe that anyone here said they are behind every bush, or that they see them all the time. So not sure what you are getting all worked up about. Pretty sure we can all agree that they do travel through the state.

I know one guy who saw one near medicine lodge. I can assure you he was more surprised to see that cat than he would have been had he won the lottery.

Uh oh...how do you spell the noise a cat makes??? :D

Geez.... So sorry for bumping this thread. I thought people would be interested in reading about a recent sighting in Manhattan... I believe the people who witnessed the lion walking through their neighborhood at 2:00 in the afternoon got a pretty good look at 30' away.

I'm not trying to start a panic or imply that we are overrun with cats. The reason why a sighting is noteworthy is because it is rare. If they were everywhere and people saw them all the time then it wouldn't be worth posting.

No bud, I read just fine. Your thoughts were everybody is crazy for believing any of this because you seem to know where, how often etc that they are here. Everyone is wrong, you win.

Spence just be careful in that KC area. Lots of reports of cats there. I would hate for you to get eaten by a kitty. They are everywhere you know.

C'mon now the only Cougars in my area hang out at Raoul's night club.... I mena your acting like they are behind every bush.

Let me add a little fuel to this fire. :D

Now that's funny I don't care qwho you are....! I can confirm that spotting I live 3 miles from Raoul's. I better be careful here in OP I heard the cougars are in heat!:D

Your not adding fuel to the fire just proving that they do show up now and again. Which we all agree on. I can't remember if that particular cat was proven to be wild or a one that had been set loose.

That's probably the one that the huckelberry shot that tearfully said he was " fraid for his kids". He got away with it though.
