trying to locate a good leather collar with contact info in case my dog gets lost. anyone have good experience getting this done over the web? if so, where at?

www.gundogsupply.com

You get a free name plate with each collar purchased. They have a lot of different styles. And you can get leather, nylon, Durasoft or TufFlex. I bought the 1" TufFlex for my Brittanys and love them. They don't absorb water and smells like the leather does. They are a great seller to deal with.

+1.

We got leather ones for everyday and orange ones for hunting. they even had an interesting idea on their site. They said that the stealing of dogs was a bigger concern then one might think. They suggested putting "needs meds daily" on the id tag to put a since of urgency on getting the dog back to the owner.

Lion Country Supply, online. I have had excellent results and a dog recovery using their tags. Sell nice chaps other specialty items also.

Another suggestion is to NOT put the name of the dog on the name plate. I have my name, city & state, cell phone number and home phone number.

Here is another place, you get a free name tag with these and several models. This is the same CO that has been supplying hounds men and gundog owners for a long time. These are reflective as well. Great site for stuff. They have day glo plastic covered nylon as well, if you go to home, dog supplies and collars you will find all kinds of good ones.

My bro-in-law turned me onto NiteLite (www.huntsmart.com) as he was a houndsman, and they are where I buy my collars.

I put my name, my cell, my wife's name, and her cell on our dog collars.

Ill add - do not buy the personalized collars from Macks Prairie Wings
I ordered tags for both dogs and when they arrived I couldnt read them to save my life. The font or type style they use is not legible. Not sure how to describe it but they use sort of a double outline font that creates too many lines cramped into a small space and therefore they cant be read. I called them and they resent me new tags. They just had a larger size, but the same font. They were nice about it and tried to make it right but I cut my losses ($15) and threw them out and gave up.

1+

Also have my dogs chipped plus have a metal tag with local contact information when we make the annual trip to SoDak.

NB

+2 for Lion. I don't have leather, but a blaze orange with the brass name plate riveted to it. Quiet, legible, great price. Even with shipping it's less than 1/2 of what I can find locally in CA. (insert eye roll here)

Your right, and they are nice as any for 7 bucks. I have bought stuff from night light since 1983. All catalog back then, or from Howard, Har, and Blair Thompson in Humbolt IA. Thats where the Gosh Valley night hunt club was, probably still is. I bet those die hards are still running those walker fox hounds down there claiming they tree coon.:D My actual Nite light still works, 23 years. I am going to put " My name is Stupid, or you wouldn't be looking me over right now. Please call my even stupider owner for losing me at, 121-121-1212"

+1. My pups collar has **REWARD** just like that on the tag.

+2. My name, my phone number, "Needs Daily Meds" and "Reward".

That's what goes on my collar.

Also, I bought Permatack Collars and had a brass plate put on them.

Permatack has held up to everything the dog throws at it and then some. Looks good, doesn't stink (has been sprayed by skunks a few times) doesn't soak up water, love it.

It's pricey but it's the last collar my dog will need.
