What’s the best food?

I'm feeding my 9 year old Brittany PPP Adult +7 Chicken and Rice. Just bought a 34# bag and it was $77.48. But that bag lasts me about 3 months. So about $25/month or less than a buck a day. My dog is sure worth that.
That’s interesting, out of curiosity how much do you feed him or her a day?

FWIW, when cost is an issue there are some brands of dog food that aren't household names but can provide some level of value. Not saying they are the "best" but I know two, small dog breeders in the midwest that have switched their dogs to these brands with good results. Both sell #50 lb bags of dog food under $40 and are available from local feed stores. One switched from Pro Plan and the other from Innukshuk and both are happy with the switch.

Mosey, I am a big supporter now of Extreme Dog Fuel. Whisky loves it and he does well on it.

She (9 year old spayed female) gets abot 1 3/4 - 2 cups once a day. She maintains her weight at 34-35 lbs.

I fed Inukshuk 30/25 for several months and it was fine at first. My GSP will eat anything and she did well on the Inukshuk...the problem I had was with my male Vizsla. He got to the point, where he simply wouldn't enough to keep weight on.. He was training and running in hunt tests and lost so much weight we had to supplement with Dyne for a few weeks. I was lucky if I could get him to eat a full cup a day. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle and moved him over to Nutrisource Performance. He likes the Nutrisource and eats 3 cups a day. No issues. Vizslas can be a bit fickle.

My lab is a 4-legged garbage disposal. I could feed her just about anything and she would still be hungry. She doesn't even hardly chew her food. She just inhales it right into the bottomless pit like a pelican.

I don't know what others look at when considering one dog food over another but one thing I strongly consider is kcal per cup because my Vizsla won't eat a lot of food in volume. FWIW, I did a comparison before I moved my dogs to Nutrisource.

PPP chicken and & rice has 488 kcal per cup
PPP Salmon & Rice 30/20 has 534 kcal per cup. I fed this for a while before moving my dogs to Inukshuk. My male Vizsla had issues with it.
Inukshuk 30/25 has 578 kcal per cup. I liked it. My Vizsla didn't.
Nutrisource Performance has 488 kcal per cup. Vizsla approved.
Extreme Dog Fuel 30/20 has 485 kcal per cup
Valupak 30/20 has 492 kcal per cup

Inukshuk has a lot more calories per cup than most and most feed less because of it. Outside of that, most performance dog food are very close in calories per cup and can be similar in ingredients and nutrition but there can be a rather large difference in price per bag or in availability.

Victor Hi Pro Plus(not listed) is pretty popular but only has 406 kcal per cup. Next Level is similar. There are a bunch of others you can buy at the grocery store than have less than 400 kcal per cup. I haven't really considered feeding them....not because they are bad...I just prefer to feed higher calorie/fat food. 450 kcal per cup and 20% fat was sort of my minimum for consideration.
