Excellent morning. Just cool enough for the dogs. Didn't make it as far as I'd planned...didn't need to. We saw at least 25 roosters in the first pass around the edge of a CRP 1/4. He missed a couple getting dialed in, lost a runner, then put down the next 2 with well placed kill shots. He passed up at least 3 more very easy roosters on the way back to the truck.
We then turned our focus to quail and found 2 coveys in the same field. Stopped at a second field on the way back home and found more quail. A box of 7.5's went through the Remington today but no quail were harmed.
On the way out of the last place we tried for quail, we stepped into a weed patch and had to watch 3 hens and 8 well-within-range roosters flush w/o taking a shot. I had the video camera in "standby" and thought I was getting the best multiflush video I've ever taken

It's been a few years since I've seen so many birds where they're "supposed" to be

Having the crops out makes all the difference:thumbsup:
