Win a UGUIDE Hat - Brood Guess Contest

Done with field 1, 20 acres, 5 hours. Slow going.

The system worked very well and moved wildlife out in front of equipment. Flushed all in the contest. Forgot to include fawns and rabbits of which 2 fawns were flushed and 4 rabbits.

The cover is heavy. many weeds chest height 5'. Clipping at county spec of 10" and looks good and there is some good grass coming which is anywhers from 10-16".

Here's what it looks like in action. Getting video and battery 1 did not last long but battery 2 is doing better. Should get 9 hours on a battery.

Back to it after dropping battery 1 in charger and picking up some cold pizza.

Logged 46 acres from 11 to 8 today. Fast at it in the morning. Found out with the battery I have only 1-2 hours recording time. We'll have to make due.

Interesting to read all the guesses. I think you will all be very surprised.

I even solicited some of the PF biologists to get the expert opinion.

I had my new 21.6 acres mowed on Monday and it looked just about the same as that in your picture. For us that don't own equipment it is a hire someone deal. I got the NRCS boys to do and it cost $18 an acre. Big job but it needed to be done---got a quarter inch of rain on it yesterday morning so the grass should really take off.

There were not many pheasants in it--but it's new and out in the middle of a bean field--give it time.:D

$18/acre is looking pretty good right now. Lot of value to hiring it done as well:cheers:

I assume that would be Kenny in the Big Blue New Holland?

there is still time. if I have enough hats I can do top 3 picks.

I am thouroughly overwelmed with weed control at this point. Finished west farm which is about half of 200 acres. Have 90 left to do on east farm.

There is clearly much more material out there than the first go round. Fuel consumption is higher, ground speed lower, engine running warmer.

Did 4 plots on west farm and saw good numbers in first 3 plots. 4th either had to do with time of day or that I changed my mowing practice to begin in center in order to push birds out into adjacent cover.

Time to gear up and go....

PS. I have officially lost control of the weeds in my sorghum food plots. I now have a better understanding of why the prevalence for corn.. It is a very profitable easy to control weeds in crop that requires little management.....

Weed control--what a joke---I'm just happy if I can keep it out of the yard.
It's been a really bad year for weeds and I'm not saying weeds are a bad thing--except for thistle--- but some places the weeds are taller than me--that should make for a tough bird season.

Matt Got in Just under the wire. I am DONE with the 200 acres. I think most will be amazed at the findings, of which will take me a couple days to compile. Here are some pics the like of which you may not have seen.

Cover crops? Biodiversity? Forget it! Get Weeds!

The top of my engine hood is 6' tall.

the Landpride mower performed amazingly!

See next post for continuation

OK so you saw how tall the weeds were right? 6'

Here is what was planted and the desired species at a whopping 6". Can you see the planted rows? this was down under the 6' growth......

Heres a better one of the rows. I believe that is maximillian sunflower in there which looks a lot like a weed.

PS. The last 50 acre field produced 12 broods and 3 single hens a no roosters. Roosters were few and far between but they had to be around to get these broods going no?

Have to laugh. So see the pictures of noxious weeds up above. I get a call this morning from FSA office saying neighbor had called this field in concerned about noxious weeds. And well he should be.

I clipped it today and we are in full compliance. I got some good video and many more broods in there loving the luscious biodiversity.

OK HERE ARE THE RESULTS. Someone will have to tell me who the winner is becuase my brain is jelly right now and I dont have time to "Weed" out the winner.

Plot 2, 26 acres
