where’s Bob

I was a monetary supporting member in another bird hunting forum. Donated every year.

Finally had enough of the censorship when my honest, not bashing, but could be viewed with some negativity, review if a sponsors product was deleted without explanation. It wasn’t an “oh this product is utter crap”, it just had a mix of pros and cons. Evidently only glowing reviews were allowed.

That’s fine, I didn’t own the board, but I removed myself and my annual monetary donation.

My favorite board has no moderator. It’s the wild Wild West. Somebody has to be over the top before the board owner steps in. I’m. Big boy, I can skip over what I don’t want to read. I’m not a fan of certain posters, but I can ignore them instead if being a tattle tale like some kid in kindergarten.

First, thumbs down.

Second, I hope Bob's OK. I'm guessing he's been busy hunting pheasants, ice fishing, or both.

I think what doesn't help a website/forum/thing is banning people who are appreciated by many, may not offer a bunch of insight/help, obviously enjoy contributing, & are truly harmless. I get that somebody "owns" the forum & has the ultimate say, but I'm thinking many users won't be too keen on a case that outwardly appears to be "a few guys didn't like Goose & whined to high heaven, so we got rid of him".

But since you did, I'd be interested to know if there was any effort to discuss it with him privately before banning him.

Also, please provide & make readily accessible to all, VERY clear & specific definition of:
1. What topics can/can't be discussed.
2. Responses to every topic that are/aren't acceptable.
3. Any unacceptable words.
4. Amount of effort required for each post.
5. What constitutes a "downward slope in the site" against which users may pre-judge their posts prior to posting.
6. Similarly, what's an "upward slope"?
7. Anything else the owner & moderators feel users should know in order to promote an "upward slope".

Thank you.

I did not care for most of Goose’s posts, but I utilized the “ignore” function.

Unless he resorted to some kind of profanity or harrassment I can’t see what would warrant a ban.

Are there specific instances of postings that violate the board rules or policies?

I understand some liked Goose on here - he certainly was a personality. I, along with others felt like he had low effort posts that contributed toward a downward slope on the site with others joining in and snowballing the posts.

I don’t know all the Goose lore but he talked about his cousin shooting hens, deficating while hunting, and other hunters pointing guns at you while hunting. That’s not exactly the activity that helps our cause with trying to get more people to join the sport/site in my point of view. I just don’t think that’s the type of message we want to show, that this site is about that.
I have seen several post that have members talking about hens being shot, none have been advocating shoiting hens, accidents happen, and some post talk about self reporting to CO's and the pros and cons of doing so. Who hasn't pooped in the field or behind a bale of hay, literally shit happens, hell I've done it along major freeways much to my embarrassment. I believe Goose asked a question of "What would you do if your hunting buddy pointed his gun at you?" There have been other post/conversation about gun safety with hunting party, while some may find offensive, we have many novice hunters on this forum that may have the same question but afraid to ask....This forum is an awesome site with great members, there satire, sarcasm, humor and great advice and help. We all know who we call Bravo Sierra on many of their post and hell you may view me as one of those. We are all adults and can bypass those members we don't care to read. To think one member can influence the downward or upward slope of a social media forum is ludicrous.

Only topics that have been off limits have been politics and religion as well as personal attacks/threats and for good reason. This site is great for help, when folks offer to do so, but also humor from crazy stories both true and stretching of said truth. We all have the ability to read or not read a post or response. Sorry will get off my soap box.

Wishing continued success for those of you still chasing roosters!

ETA- where can I find the board rules/policies/terms of use? I can’t seem to find it.

Off somewhere stuck in some sort of pheasant Nirvana.

Yes in South Dakota, too busy killing roosters to make any fairytale posts.

Public is good, private is good. Ditches are good. All wild birds, never paid to hunt. Bought one old timer a nice gift for helping us out.

I won't add any long-winded lyrical prose. I'll simply say I love pheasant hunting and love the dogs I've been lucky enough to follow through draws, ditches, shelter belts and sloughs. Chasing wild roosters is a venture to which nothing else can compare. Lots of great members here. I've airways kept an open mind and listened to others opinions.

I cordially protest. What's next? Can't say Flare Nare? Can't make fun of A5's misses? Maybe I'm next? Censorship is a slippery slope! I'll leave it at that. I'm with Mioforester.

Every user on this forum has permission to make fun of my misses & my missus. Sometimes both are pretty comical.

Goose is a goof and sometimes he gets to far off track, but he doesn't get political or profane as best as I can remember. Unfortunately he doesn't add any real technical value or educated opinions. But lets face it this forum's traffic really dries up after the season ends, and at least he gives me a reason to check in.

If we can't have fun and goof on each other, and all dialog needs to fit "someone's definition of substantive content" visiting here sounds a bit like work.

My last comment on the new direction it seems this is going.

This is webguys site, period. He alone can decide who he wants and doesn't want in his space. He can alone decide what content is in this site. It seems some here are almost like this is a bunch of 4th graders that want to mess with the new teacher, trying to get control of a wild classroom (my wife is an elementary teacher). This isn't a public place to post whatever you feel is appropriate. If webguy wants a serious site with minimal BS, he should be able to have it. Censorship, really? Use that word when YOU create a site and someone tells you what you can have and can't have on it, NOT when you are in someone else's place and think you get to make the rules. You can make the rules in your house. Don't like it here, leave and create your own little world. Rant over.

Be careful what you wish for

I used the word censorship. I don't see where I used it incorrectly either.

If this site or any other site wants to censor what I say, have at it, it is their site and their choice. Whether I return and bring page views and advertising dollars with me, that is my choice.

What I often see used incorrectly is 'I have a First Amendment right to say that, it is free speech'. Sorry fella, that is to keep the government from censoring you, not some individual on that individuals platform.

Where is Bob? Goose (Bob) got a slap on the wrist for 7 days and is not banned anymore as you can see if you visit his profile.

His humor has never bothered me, but it seems to bother A LOT of individuals as I get a lot of "reports" on him, but I typically just "resolve" it and tell them what's the issue?

I have sent him a message and since handled it. I'm the only moderator at this point. Any issues, you can send me a conversation directly.

Goose reminds me of that one weird uncle every family seems to have. Talks a lot of BS, is extremely opinionated, controversial and triggering, and half the time you can't figure out what the F he is even talking about. But at the same time, if you roll into a family event and see Uncle Goose isn't there, you realize that damn, you really wish he was.

I don't own the website and I'm not a mod, so my opinion doesn't matter. But I will say this. If folks are really letting some 60 year old dude who lives 10 hours away from you and can barely figure out how to reply to the correct post on a forum get under your skin, quit being so soft. If you really do a deep dive on his posts over the past year, in my opinion we've started to train him. He is clearly caring about losing birds, starting to see he needs to train his dogs, and trying to be a good steward of the land (very vocal about slob hunters mistreating the animals and land.) Old dogs are slow to learn new tricks. I'm happy to have the guy around and glad his ban was lifted.

He was a rube, troll and used very inappropriate language, having used our Lord's name in vain. I for one had admonished him. I also had quit reading his posts and glad he is now History.
Thanks web guy for having the "intestinal fortitude" to banish him.

Maybe instead of admonishing him, you should do something else?

“When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing.” Luke 9:11
