For more background (and so I don’t have to worry about my house getting raided tonight), here is a message I sent webguy about Goose initially:
“Question on forum moderation: are there moderators for this forum? I've enjoyed this site but recently it's become filled with nonsense posts (see Goosemasters latest post) more so than actual talk of pheasant hunting. Other forums have moderators to clean up members stepping over a line, but I have yet to see that with this forum, so I'm curious how/if that works here.”
He replied and said that he banned Goose due to my and other complaints. I checked and it is a 2 week ban that ends 1/31. He left a note to dial it down a bit for Goose as members are complaining about him.
So, Goose is coming back at the end of the month. Going forward, I will send a warning via a message to the user about what the complaint is. Then, if the user still continues their ways, there will be a 2 week ban. Honestly guys, I don’t think I will have to warn 99.9% of you, I don’t want to be seen as a dictator or cancel culture. I don’t own the site; I’m someone who just enjoys pheasant hunting/habitat and engaging in this forum.
A5, I appreciate your comment (below). As with life, I don’t know if there’s a right or wrong answer to what’s right or wrong, it’s really a question for every individual user. But for this forum’s purpose, posts that are pages long talking about dropping logs or pointing guns at others while walking would be a downward slope or out of line. I think his last post was “what should you do when you’re walking and someone points a gun at you”. We should aspire more from posts than that. I think Goose puts on a show on the forum cause he gets such a reaction from the crowd. Obviously, the site is about pheasant hunting so posts should focus on that, but I will say there is a Lounge (non-pheasant hunting) section of the site where y’all can check out, especially when the season’s over for most and it’s -10 degrees out.
Also, please provide & make readily accessible to all, VERY clear & specific definition of:
1. What topics can/can't be discussed.
2. Responses to every topic that are/aren't acceptable.
3. Any unacceptable words.
4. Amount of effort required for each post.
5. What constitutes a "downward slope in the site" against which users may pre-judge their posts prior to posting.
6. Similarly, what's an "upward slope"?
7. Anything else the owner & moderators feel users should know in order to promote an "upward slope".
