What's in your vest?

This is what I carry but not limited to as weather and terrain dictates what is packed.
My truck has a whole array of dog and human food and extensive first aids to include skink stuff too. Don't ask me how I know.

Slip lead for dog and traps
multitool
heavy duty zip tie (for traps) police/ military grade
EMT gel
saline small one
TP
forceps ( sand burrs and stuff)
quik clot for dogs and humans
back up truck keys.
 
shells, TP, dog water, water bowl, ecollar transmitter

I carry a SOG multi tool on my belt and a pocket knife and wallet in a front pocket.

I think you and I used the same list to prep for the season and gear. I bet the med bag in your truck looks a lot like mine as well.
 
Shells, water, my e collar controller, a PLB, cable cutters, TP, small first aid kit for dog and a slip lead.

I feel I've been pretty fortunate that since I've been carrying that stuff I've never has to use the real first aid stuff, I.E. tourniquet or blood stopper. But I've seen some pretty gruesome injuries before I had that stuff with me and I could have used it. On opening day of pheasant seaso many years ago, a guy in his 70's stumbled on an old disc, slipping and falling onto one of the disc blades. It avulsed the flesh off his forearm on the medial side. We had nothing but dirty handkerchiefs available to stop the bleeding and of course he was on Warfarin but we were able to get a pickup up to him and we wrapped his arm in a sweatshirt for the ride to the emergency room who transferred him to a trauma center.
I have quite a first aid kit in the truck, mostly for dogs but also for humans in a worst case scenario. Sutures, staples, fluids ETC.
 
I still have my old Army med bag that I keep in the truck for bigger events like MVA, etc. It has a staple gun and sutures, etc. I also have a dedicated dog bag in the truck as well. I have rolled up on too many MVA to not be prepared to help in some way. My vet is super at keeping me stocked with meds, etc. for the dog.
 
It definitely was a freak injury, he never hunted with us again but I did see him a few years later. He had a gruesome scar and said the recovery was tough but he had good use of his arm. I always think about that when people make fun of me for carrying stuff with me and they say "I'm usually less than a mile from my truck". That guy would have had a tough time getting the half mile back to our trucks had he been by himself!

Self care = living! I just can't imagine going afield without some basic medical care on my person for me and my dog. Even if it is just some 4x4's and a roll of vet wrap. Those couple of items can make all the difference for most injuries.
