12 gauge over under is what I currently use. I do want to take out a 20 gauge side by side I use to shoot clay pigeons with when I was younger. What size shot would you guys recommend for a 20. Take into account for the rest of the year they will be pen raised birds.

An ounce of 7 1/2s. I like it on wild birds just fine too.:cheers:
 
I hunted the bulk of my life with a 12. Primarily because I didn't have he means for other options. Now, later in life and an ability to buy something different, have have switched to a 686 20 gauge. I found a deal on a 686 12 and bought that also, but I only carried it one day this winter. I think it will live the rest of its life in the safe.

I think there is a maturity level that need to be achieved also to move to sub gauges. I took my new son in law out this year.. After struggling with his 870 12 gauge, I let him use a 20 Benelli Monty,. He hit everything with that, so I shortened his maturity curve in one trip. That's what he wants to shoot from now on..
