Opinions on this wood please. I can't tell if I really like it or not really. I know its a personal taste thing but what are your thoughts?

Better than anything I have on a shotgun but it's kind of boring if you are going for fancy looking wood and paying accordingly. That straight grain of wood should be really strong I think.

It would be a field gun so fancy isn't real important. I just can't decide if I like the color or the grain. Sometimes I really do, other times not so much.

You could do a lot worse on a field gun. I just thought maybe you were paying extra for the wood which can get pretty expensive and that wood is pretty straight without figure. In the end it's your money and there are piles of guns out there with different wood.

My fanciest gun is an 870 wingmaster with pretty plain wood but turkey calls I do like to rock ivory and nice wood. Like this desert ironwood/ivory trumpet.

Is this gun in your possession, or are you looking at picture? I know it's not what we are accustomed to seeing when we look at gun stocks. Friend sent me a picture of Winchester 94AE with similar stock. I was real hesitant about this gun at first but figured I'd stop by on way home from work to look at it. When he set the gun on the table it looked completely different in person than from picture. I couldn't pull the 3 Ben's out of my wallet fast enough! I imagine over time we will see more wood like this as the new style. Maybe down the road they will view the fine grade we are used to in the same manner we see this.
Wood...it just may grow on ya;)

It's nice wood.

I would gladly pay more for a gun with nice wood.

I think it is really nice. Sometimes the straight grain has a tendency to spilt from recoil. I would look at the inletting, but a nice piece of wood, looks French, maybe Bastogne, or circassion (sic). I am sure it will get the appropriate attention. I sure would like to admire it!

It just says "english walnut", its on an old re stocked 16ga I keep going back to.

QH?

It is handsome.

(And, really, how often do you look at your shotgun's stock as you bring it up when a bird flushes? :) )

It reminds me of the laminated stocks you see on rifles. If the color is what's holding you back, you can strip the wood and re-stain in a color that is more to your taste. I did it with my Citori and it went from ho-hum to wow.

Good point, probably almost never.

I think it looks great. All of the wild burl type wood gets boring to me, everyone lauds it, but it's sort of like an "overly-engraved" receiver to me, too much. I much prefer the long, high-contrast grain of that stock. Whatever.

It's all in the eye of the beholder anyway, so go with what you like and don't worry about other opinions.

You want to see some nice wood? Check out these Turkish Walnut gun stocks.

Are those finished stocks! Or can you order one like it. I am reluctant to ask the price! and then I have to find a gun worth it. Maybe a Winchester 21 custom or a Parker DHE, that needs a new stock.

If my memory is right. I believe these were finished guns. AYA's new O/U's I believe.

Just checked that, it wasn't AYA. I have to dig through my poor memory and see if I can find where I got this pic.
