Now that bird season is over what are you doing? Turkey Hunting, Snow Goose hunting? Fishing? Or are you just a hard working bird hunter?

Making spring turkey plans in NW KS and booking my motel for my October SD trip. Other than that, moping around with the dog. I envy those with trout fishing nearby. Love to fish for and eat trout.

Trout fishing opens up January 1st here. Lots of fishing until bird season starts again.

In February I spent a little time controlling the flat-tailed tree chewers. Just finished fleshing and stretching the last of them Sunday. If I knew where there were more, I have til the end of the month.

Fine tuning bird dog and scouting for new places to hunt currently. Starting in May it will be turkey hunting and after turkey hunting it will be fishing straight through until next hunting season.

(maybe if someone twists my arm hard enough I may sprinkle in some sporting clays)

Been going to my two daughters volleyball tournaments. My youngest daughter has been having indoor softball practice and pitching lessons the last couple of months and my oldest had high school softball practice tonight. So starting in a couple of weeks the high school season starts and then my youngest will start playing tournaments next month. Then whatever free time I can find I will fish and hopefully turkey hunt.

Guiding at a local hunt club, than starting to work on some things to make next season better than this years although that will be hard since it was my first hunting with my own dog so we had a lot of firsts that will be memories forever.

Just about done spearing pike for the winter, getting reports that the woodcock are filtering back so it's time to get the dog back in shape and ready for banding season.

Getting the fly fishing gear in order. I've been a bit of a slacker the last couple years and plan on taking advantage of the low water this spring. I also plan to get a 15lb spinning tackle rig and some big ass lures ready to go catch some pike this spring. Hope all you guys enjoy whatever rings your chimes and we have a great nesting season for the phez.

I shoot clays about every weekend between bird seasons, fish a little bit until may when all game fish open up then I fish pretty much a little every day mostly bass. Turkeys in April and May. Canoe and camping trips during the summer and before you know it bird season is here. A little predator hunting too.

I don't really miss bird season until late summer because I stay busy and I love fishing.

(If somebody really twist my arm maybe I can get out a few times on some new lakes in a boat this summer)

Just gotta stay busy outside or I'll go nuts.

Cutting and splitting next year's firewood in my free time. I started putting in a food plot for our buddy stand, and had to remove some pretty good sized trees to do it. Cottonwood for the campfire and mulberry for the fireplace.

I've been keeping an eye to the sky for snow geese, but they have been really unpredictable. They had been flying over the farm hot 'n heavy, but seem to have dispersed, and many seem to have moved out of the area. But I would blast some if the opportunity presented itself.

Just got a new, 2 yr old female GSP. My brother was gonna get her but deceided she was too high strung for his 9 yr old GSP which is slightly crippled. He found her on Craigslist. I was very skeptical. So the lady brings her to my bro's house and within minutes of me getting there, the GSP tells me that this lady is somewhat abusive. Lady only wants $100.00 So I'm thinking some sort of scam. So I play along. Long story short we get the dog in the field, on 35 ft leash, and this dog has an outstanding prey drive. Locks on point on a cottontail within 3 minutes, and after that it was nose to the ground, balls out all the way. I worked her for another 15 or so, found a few more rabbits, gave my bro the thumbs up, and he goes and tells the lady he wants to think about it for a day, so she leaves. Long story short, I guess I misjudged her. Bro went to pick up the dog, ladys in tears, ect, and tells him, "whatever you do, don't give her to your brother." ( Oh I forgot to mention the compromise with the wife, she hates our 3 yr old male in the house, hates the shedding, smell ect. so here it is.... 1 dog, he's in the house 2-3 hours a day, always in the evening, stays on his pillow ect. and I hear about it constantly. So I say, 2 dogs, no indoor dogs anymore. OK deal. They do live in the garage, free to come and go as they please.) Few days prepping, ect. Dog arrives Sunday 2:15 Freaking loves it here, no whimpering, crying, a little barking, (gonna have to put a damper on that) acts like shes been ours her whole life. So my bro brings over his ecollar, and my old one from the early 90's. (thought there was a dummy collar with it. Opened up the case when it was dark outside, no dummy collar, close it up, just condition her with the real one. Get to work today and for some reason, Shaun starts talking about the dog, for some reason, I break out the old collar to show him what it was like back in the day, and tucked in between the foam and soft plastic case is $500.00 in $100.00 dollar bills. Call my bro up, he stashed it in there over 9 years ago, and thought his ex or a roommate had stolen it. If hew would have called me up and asked what to do with the collar, I'd have said trash it. So there ya go, Chloe has already made us $400.00 Is that a good sign or what? Only command she knows is "sit" We've done 2 sessions of "stay" and "heel" she now knows what I expect, but, well, ya know. I'm to nervous to run her off leash, she hasn't been outdoors much, she might just take off. Any day now...

Yes Sir, theyll last a life time. It's hard to pass up upland memories no matter what hunting your doing.

You guys with these fish pictures are driving me nuts. Those are some nice looking fish wisturkey. I have turned into a slow moving crappie/panfish guy myself. Although I am headed down to Taneycomo here in a couple weeks to trout fish. I probably won't post any pictures after seeing those trout bleu posted last year:eek:.
