What age should I send my dog away for training?

David0311

Well here is the next step in my training of a new pup. This weekend I will run her in her first hunt test. She is entered into a AKC JH test in Minnesota this Saturday and Sunday. Then she has another test over the Labor Day weekend. If she passes all four she will have a JH title at one year and 15 days old. Now just that minor detail of passing those tests!

GOod LUCK---

Try to relax when going to the line :rolleyes:-
Judges don't bite--relax

This from a guy was a wreck at his first trial

And once even took the wrong dog to the line at a trial

It has been a while since I was at a hunt test. I will only be able to run her one of the four times but sometimes that training is just as good for me as it is for the dog! I appreciate the words of encouragement most of the judges I have seen have been very helpful with me as an amateur.

WELL--how did the test go this weekend:)

Removing Burrs

I use a product called "Cowboy Magic". My wife uses it on her horses mane & tail when it gets full of burrs. It is expensive but a little goes a long way just rub a small amount in and the burrs comb right out. You can buy it a Mills Fleet Farm or most any tack store. It really works

Here is a brief video my friend took of the day. She passed on Saturday and Sunday. I ended up just letting the trainer run her both days. It was more relaxing for me.

Beautiful little dog--
Great focus and prey drive
Excellent marks and tight hunts
Nice water work--and no tendency to cheat on second water retrieve either on way out or way back
You have a winner in her
Now get out there and run her yourself :)

David,

I am thinking of working with her over the winter and possibly trying to run some senior hunt tests next spring on my own! Got any advise for me?

Joel,

I do not feel qualified to give you advice --I believe Tim and Loren will give you things to work on--
They have obviously done a great job so far and know the little dog intimately and are much more qualified than me

If I was to recommend anything it would be for you and her to make a trip to Texas before spring if possible so you could both work with them

If not the only thing I would caution you on is be in NO HURRY to put her in the water come spring/break up no matter how tempting--if she was mine I would not even consider it until water temps were in the 60's and 55 at a absolute minimum ask Tim/L. For there recommendatio

You have a beautiful girl with what looks like a ton of potential

Hey Joel
I heard Reba made the tests look easy!
Congratulations........ You have no idea how addicting this can be! See you in Masters in a year or so

Lauren tells me the water mark on Sunday was difficult but I guess she nailed it! She sent me a picture today of her with her first two ribbon passes.

Great--

As it so happens another friend of mine --a trainer as well--was just here at my place and Tim called him to answer a question--

I congratulated him on how good RIBA looked--
