Instead of going to SD this year, we booked a house in Canby. I've always wanted to hunt this area and did research in the past. Lots of good looking spots in the area, and we might get a SD license too and jump back and forth across the border. 10 of us going and 5 dogs. Two goldens, a chessie, a black lab and a britt. I always look forward to this trip but temper my expectations. Thankfully my buddies are starting to pick up on the fact that everyone gets more chances if we split up. Anyhow it's nice to have something to look forward to. Regardless of the results, I know I'll also spend a pile of time this coming fall alone with the dog walking the pheasant fields, swamps, thickets, and shelterbelts. I checked a local SC MN spot driving home after the 4th of July party. There were two roosters out running around on the side of the gravel road! Oh boy, once pheasant hunting got in my blood, I don't think it'll ever leave. So lucky to fair chase these wiley birds around from season start to season end.
