Pack fan here. Both teams were a bust this week, so I won’t bust any chaps 😄. What’re y’all’s thoughts on Darnold vs McCarthy next season??

What’re y’all’s thoughts on Darnold vs McCarthy next season??

If you would have asked me that 3 weeks ago, I would have said Darnold for sure.

Now, I'm not convinced. 14 wins is 14 wins, that is a lot in the NFL. But you make your hay against playoff-caliber opponents, not against the Bears. So at this point, you let Sam walk and see what he can get. He will get a starting gig somewhere, just not for "Cousins" type money. There are at least a dozen teams that will look at his 35 TDs and 11 INTs this season and gladly take it compared to what they currently have.

McCarthy will get his chance, whether that is next season or the season after that. I'm not sure he's even fully healthy right now. He had to have a second knee surgery in November. Daniel Jones is also still on the roster too. He could be in the mix next season.

Darnold lost a lot of money last night. He should schedule an appointment at the vision clinic today. OL and DL were non-existent. Did we see a professional sport team actually give up with 9 minutes to play??? You're paid millions to play a game and you quit?? Predictable play calling both sides of the ball again. Every team has to drop on them now. This is why I prefer high school sports.

Darnold fell into a perfect situation this year but he is what he is. With two top ten receivers, A good tight end, a very good running back and a smart young coach. It was easy for him to look better than he really is. Unfortunately QB’s are judged on Their big game play. He looked gun shy out there the majority of the game. No the line wasn’t great but at least half the sacks were on him. He was not accurate and his arm strength was not good. He cost himself a lot of money the last two games. I doubt he is offered a long term deal anywhere. After this game I doubt he’ll be back with the Vikings. O’Connell didn’t look pleased on the sidelines.

I don’t mind keeping him, just dont pay him. The Sammy D that everyone knows showed up the last two games

Darnold maybe available for less now than he was two weeks ago ... then again plenty of teams in a worse position than the Vikings. More teams missed the playoffs than made them (albeit not by much).

Wonder if that $25 - $35 million Darnold would get ($40 million if franchised) is not better spent on a couple really good lineman.

Rams were thought to be done when they gave up all those draft picks for rental pros ... but they won a super bowl. Then the Rams turn around and take what picks they had and drafted exceptionally well.

Vikings drafted rather poorly in the past five years. Few excellent first rounders and a sleeper pick or two that worked out. Pace was undrafted and a great find. But it is those young first contract cycle players that can really make a team strong while allowing the $$ to be spread out well.

Vikings have 25 or so free agents. Maybe a vastly different team in 2025.

The Minnesota Vikings made the playoffs after going 14-3 in 2024. Although their free-agent acquisitions made significant impacts, the same couldn’t be said about their rookie class. According to Pro Football Focus, Vikings rookies took 464 combined snaps on offense and defense, the fewest in the NFL. For comparison, the Los Angeles Rams rookie class took 4,864.

They will have a lot of cap space to re-sign many of those players, should they choose to do so. I think the radio said they have the 5th most cap space of any team going into next season.

I was impressed with darn all that times during the season but those last two games he he really choked it out big time.

I really, really hope the Lions can put a run together. They're due and it would be nice to see the NFC North bring one home again. Been a few years since #12 lifted the Lombardi trophy.
