Upland Jacket

I got the cabelas windstopper jacket that birdshooter linked to and a Cabelas strap vest. I wore the vest on an two day quail hunt and its alright but no good water carrying options except in the game pocket. I wore the jacket for about an hour in the rain yesterday and it kept me bone dry and did in fact stop the wind and its roomy enough for some layering underneath, I really like the jacket. I may have a chance to try it in some colder weather next weekend on my pheasant hunting trip up north.

Yeah I actually looked at that exact jacket just last week at my local Cabelas. Really nice jacket for the money.

By the time you get here in December you probably won't need to carry a lot of water in the field. Cooler temps and possibility of some snow on the ground minimizes the amount of water you need in the field. But you still need to keep the pups hydrated.

My WingWorks vest holds two 1 liter bottles of water. Great for warm weather hunting. Plus the game bag holds a lot and is easy to load a bird into.

When it's cooler and all I need for water is a 16-20 oz. bottle in the game bag I use this Cabelas vest.

I really like the Filson strap vest. It's a solid product.

Ill throw my 2 cents in here. Unless its raining ill usually just wear long underwear and a plaid shirt with my vest. Ill stick with that configuration till around zero degrees.

This picture was in a morning when it was -9F in NW Kansas in Dec a few years back before the drought. That's a super high density fleece jacket from Northface. Wind won't penetrate it like regular fleece. Orvis strap vest over it. Layers of mid weight thermal underwear and clothing under it.

Remind me not to do this again.

I normally hunt the southern border of the U.S. in December. Cotton shirt and jeans.

I picked up the Filson Tin Cloth Field Coat and it's awesome. I work outdoors and use it as my winter coat as well. I'm always ready to go hunting this way.
