Uninvited Blockers?

We could all go out and volunteer to build 2 guzzlers per section?

I think the jury is out on guzzlers. I have hunted some private property with several over the years and saw no more birds than on those without. Did see a bunch of coon and coyote sign along with others. As far as the original question, you would think people would respect the fact you were there first but unfortunately some lose their mind when it comes to hunting. I do believe wiha fees should be added to help with habit improvements. I can only speak to kansas, but 20.50 for a resident license is a joke. But whenever cost increases are brought up, people say it would price many out of hunting. IMO if you can't pay 40-50 bucks a year to hunt, maybe you should have other priorities that should take precedence. I hardly think that makes us elitist.

When you get more money, you spend more and maybe not in the right places!! A watchdog group would need to be in order to make sure the money goes where it is earmarked! As far as guzzlers, they benefit all wildlife! Trailcam one!! Birds may move a great distance from them during hunting season if there is not adequate food and cover and pressure plays a role as well!!!

BleuBijou,

I am assuming that building guzzlers is something that Pheasants Forever does, if you know, how do you go about getting involved with PF?

My understanding is that pheasant get all the moisture they need from food sources and the occasional rain/snow.

This is right on Bleu. In California opening day of dove season is the biggest hunting day of the year with somewhere near 800,000 "hunters" taking to the field. I've read that somewhere near 400,000 of these people only buy licenses for that day and each one has to purchase a $8 upland stamp. Only 10% of revenue from this stamp ever finds its way to the ground for purchasing or improving upland habitat. Let's face it, upland hunters get the hose most of the time.

Your local chair for Pf would put you with the right person!! You can also find designs for them online! Really not that expensive to build!! Chadsbritt could get you all the info since he is on the PF Northern colorado!

I totally agree. I think hunting opportunities would be better even with better enforcement of current WIHA rules. I work around the gov on a daily basis. Too often money that is given by the feds becomes a use it or lose it mentality. States dump money just so they won't lose it. I see it all the time.

Im on the other side of the fence so probly not worth my comments. Im still confused why they knocked the wia fee in the head. They could take the extra 20 bucks of that and raise their rental rates to the landowner. I dont remember the cut offs but over like 300 acres u get a buck an acre. That doesnt mean chit to these mega farmers. They spend that in the first 10 seconds of being awake in the morning. SO in turn there is no reason for them to create habitat unless they are hunters and or love wildlife. The higher percentage of ground I hunt. They are not all that wound up about the wildlife they want to make money!!!!!!!!! I see this every year on here and alot of it is the same grumblings. Corporate america has screwed the recreation side of life. No question to it. Tons of examples but wont get into that. Im still a little confused on some posts if U raise the prices to get a liscence to go hunting they wont be able to participate anymore. IMO 20.25 a year or something like that posted above and u cant afford 50. U spend more than that in a day to come out here to play. I go fishing all spring long out of state. Which would be similiar to driving here from the front range. Liscense is like 60 bucks. Best 60 Dollars I ever spent. The fuel going threw my vehicle was the best I ever spent. ALso the same with my food for the weekend. SO its all want u want out of life. Or u stay home and do nothing...

WIA money

One of my farmer friends around Haxton told me several years back, when the $20 fee was in place, he removed his from WIA because it only paid him $5.00 an acre, not worth the problems he encountered with hunters.

I doubt that any amount would move these guys. I figure most of it is the idemnity from a law suit the state gives them is more of the issue, or just being decent neighbors and helping the local towns tourist attraction. If we have to compete with dollars only, we will be outbid.

Thanks BleuBijou!
