Anyone have any luck finding one used at pawn or gun shop? I cant get myself to pay a few hundred dollars for a gun that fires blanks. If you have other suggestions, I'll hear those too.

I just used a 22. I found some blanks for it. I,ve used 22 shorts then lr. I assume you’re trying to get a dog trained to the sound of the gun.

You want a gun that shoots the short acorn crimps which is this one for $39. I have 3 of them. It will shoot the acorn crimps. They are perfect for starting young dogs.

I have used all the inexpensive AKA cheap starter pistols and they haven't held up. GUNX that fires .209 primers has been the best by a mile. Unfortunately they are $200ish bucks. You might be able to find a used one of the retriever training FB pages. A Day starter pistol in .22 would be the second best option.
Robin Solomon in Illinois was the go to guy for starter pistols and repairs unfortunately he passed away a year or two ago.

You can get bulk shotgun shells with 209 primers. The primer is a lot quieter than a starter pistol. I start my puppies with the 209 primed shell then move up from there.

Heritage .22 revolver roughly $125. Acorn crimp 22 blanks, they are super short, Dont use Ramset blanks. Primed shot gun shells are $25 per 100. Fiocchi 12 gauge blanks are extremely loud and kinda spendy.
