Snow

3-4” to begin with, got another 3-4” since 9 am…great snow hunt! Pretty brisk E/SE wind, maybe 12/15, gusting a bit more. Felt like we were hunting in a Les Kouba painting! Some great dog work, some good shooting, and some head scratchers…5 of us put 13 in the vests, about 90 minute hunt. I love hunting in falling snow…👍
That's a lot of people.😐

I was out there for the rain, the snow isn't that deep except at the cattail edges as the wind swept the fields pretty clean, and it was only 2-4 inches. The rain melted the fields clean and was absorbed pretty quickly as there is very little to no frost in the ground and the forecast for next week has numerous days well above freezing. I don't think this weather event will have a significant effect considering its early and the birds are fat and happy. I hope I am right because the numbers are amazing. Central SD
Yeah I like central, that far East South Dakota looks like it could be good.

Not enough, frankly…we were in birds, big time…could have used a few more. 2 weeks earlier my group of 6 got 17 in the same 1/4 section in about 90 minutes, no snow that time…it’s helpful to have a few guys on different sides of a particular field to keep them from pouring out…sometimes the direction they’re going allows them to stay in the field we’re hunting, depending on wind, where the habitat is, what the adjacent fields have for cover or crops, etc. To me, 10, 15+ is a big group…but it depends on the cover…a big cattail slough full of hundreds and hundreds of birds can absorb 10-15 hunters very easily…

The most people I've ever hunted with was two other people, and most of the time I hunt solo. I've never done a big groupon, and I don't wear orange ever.

The most concerning thing about larger groups is general inexperience of some in the group.
I always wear protective glasses, I know 3 people who’ve been shot in the face, one lost an eye. He was up on a hill with his group below…you know what happened. The other 2 are farmers that were hosting large groups… 8? 10? And the farmers were blocking on the ends of food plots…low flying birds…a no no!

That's the thing with a lot of people, some people are very dangerous with a shotgun.

If you make a trip out, you can run Mr. Jones against Golden Hour's dog Nila.
Yes, I don't usually hunt that far east, but Mr Jones and nyla are right around the same age I think. I really enjoy the videos that they do, it really lets people kind of know what pheasant hunting is.

Yup…we call unsafe gun handling out…happens, I’ve been called out…gotta have that policy where it gets called out by anybody who notices it…I’ve been hunting in groups off and on for 30+ years…no issue, you pay attention…most of the time we’re not very close to each other…some times we are…pay attention and have a policy of calling any situations out
