Snow

Rain  is now in the forecasted today across much of the ND, SD and Minnesota pheasant belt. Accompanied and followed by high winds and then cold. This is a poor, poor start to the winter for the pheasants. And pheasant hunters.

This is just bad news for wildlife in general now. Deep snow, rain/snow mix, followed by a bitter cold front that freezes everything like super glue. Mortality is going to be high this time around. Its been mostly non-existent the past couple years with the fake winters.

That sucks, I didn't know that the snow was so deep in South Dakota.

Did my best today to help the hens compete but may be the roosters get the ice scratched off the food better - so the hypothesis that less roosters are better is actually false.

Hauling butt back to home now. It was a productive 2 hours of hunting ... appears to be how I end my season this year.
