Hey all. Time to ditch the blackberry.........

So what is the smart phone that is most hunter friendly?

By that I mean which smart phone has the most options for apps related to hunting, mapping, etc.

also while we are at it what are the best apps out there?

I use Scout Look app and like it a bunch. My phone on the other hand sucks the life out of batteries so no recommendation on a phone.

I personally never got into the iphone craze, so I don't know what's available in the istore. I like the android platform and have a Samsung galaxy 3. I like it better than iphone because it's got a larger screen and you can increase the memory of the phone based on how big an sd card you put in it. With the iphone, you have to buy it with however many gb's you want and that's all you get. I know the samsung galaxy 5 is due out in a month or so, so you might be able to get an s4 at a good price.

I have a Samsung Galaxy 3. Don't buy one. They have an issue with phone reception and this comes straight from Verizon. However I don't know if you can even get one any more. The Galaxy 4 does not have the problem.

I think the original question was was "which smartphone is the most hunter friendly". I think you are basically asking which operating system is better, the iphone or the Droid. I don't know which is for hunters as I haven't gotten into those apps yet. But I have the Samsung Galaxy 3 (Droid) and my wife has an iphone. I much prefer the features on the Droid system.

if youre more techy get an android phone. I dont use mine for much outside of work stuff so Im on my 3rd Iphone and its fine - despite what the droid folks will cry.

I have a couple of GPS and mapping apps and the HuntingGPSmaps chip. Im happy with them.

What kind of phone reception issue have you had? I have an S3 for work and a personal one as well. Both are on verizon, and I've had both for a year and a half without any problems.

Pretty much any smart phone will run any app you want to get. I use the motorola Razr Maxx and my battery will last longer than any of my families iphones by at least 24 hours! The verizon folks told me the difference in a motorola versus a samsung is in the ability to connect to towers in out of town area's. They all said that the motorola seems to be the best. Just my 2c.

Seems like the iphone has its followers and the android phones have their followers. And the two don?t seem to mix. Operating system seems to be a personnel choice for each user.

I would be interested to know what apps people use the most on a day in day out basics.

I download the WIHA maps on Google Earth, and have a weather app. I don't know what else would even be helpful for hunting, really. I don't often use either one after I leave the hotel. I use them mostly for planning purposes, and refer to the paper map while driving and the actual weather while hunting.

I like Pandora or Iradio for cruising music... And you'll need facebook so you can brag about your dogs and straight shooting afterward.

There are quite a few apps I use. I read the local paper everyday on my phone. I use a weather app, facebook, local tv pages, espn, sirius-xm radio, rhapsody music, craigslist. I also find it nice to have the white pages app for looking up phone numbers and addresses or using the internet to google stuff. Google maps is nice too. I can control my furnace or a/c through my wifi thermostat on my phone. For hunting, I like the Montana parcel app which gives you the names of landowners. Then I can use the white pages app to find their address or phone number to try to get permission to hunt. I also download a lot of BMA maps to the phone to help me find the sign in boxes. You'd be surprised how much you'll use your phone and different apps once you have a smart phone.

Old iPhone 4S....
Weather apps, lunar game movement apps, property management apps that you can mark stand sights on arial maps, google earth, ballistic calculators, predator apps, just plug in a speaker or bluetooth to a speaker box. The list goes on!

Takes great pictures and I'm sure the newer phones take better ones, surf the web. Only complaint is I have to charge it every day if I use it a lot, I always carry a extra battery pack while hunting.

Sure would be nice to have UPH have the capability to use forum apps that make it 1000% easier to view and participate in threads using your mobile device.

Tapatalk or OHUB Campfire are two that I have used on other forums and they work very well. Now if we can only get Webguy to set it up....;)
