Me and the dog had a very personal talk on this subject yesterday. That and not fighting Raccoons. Only time will tell if she took it to heart.

I still run after the dog every chance I get. Public land I'll take any shot at a rooster in the air I can get. When I meet the rancher's daughter who has ground loaded with private land dummies I'll stroll around behind a pointing dog, SxS broke open on the crook of my arm, casually walk up taking my sweet time getting ready for a shot.

At my age, most would take my “running” after my dog on a bird as speed walking! At least she stops now and then to make sure I’m keeping up!

I remember when I was a teenager and in my twenties, running all the time, when duck hunting or pheasant hunting just to keep up with my dog.

I try to run if the situation calls for it. I just can't run very fast or far anymore.

I quit a few years ago…I walk briskly at times..,not worth hurting myself. I’d run to help a buddy or dog in need…or a damsel in distress, who wants me to remove her dress, cause she wants me to see her breasts, and it’s happened, I must confess, and I assisted with great zest…surely I jest…if it happened, I’d keep it close to the vest…that’d be best…

I told my wife that I did some jogging yesterday. She said wow, you are really taking this getting in shape stuff seriously. I didn't tell her it was downhill to the only tree in sight and that I was about too pee in my pants!!

This is how I transitioned from a Labrador to a Griffon. I got to old and slow to keep up with my Lab. When she got on a running pheasant there wasn't enough electricity to change her speed or direction. I Googled slow methodical bird dog and here I am with a Griffon.
