Ruff Grouse in full swing.

You're killing me also...

I can't wait to get out but work and new baby have me placed at home. Will be going up for a long weekend of grouse and woodcock hunting in one week. We did really well last year at this time. I hope it's the same this year. It will be good just to get out in the woods and have the dogs running in front of us. Anything above that will be gravy. Will report back after that weekend. Congrats again. Like GSP said a limit of grouse is quite an accomplishment.

BTW...hunting in Price Cty. in Wisconsin.

You're killing me man! :10sign:

Next you're going to tell me that they were all over honest points, occurred in less than an hour and you didn't even bother loading the chamber until the dog went on point.

Congrats. A limit on ruffed is no small feat.

Not quite!! LOL

Shooting a limit of Ruffies won't come often. It was defiantly a day to remember for sure.

Shot one this morning so far.

Not going to tell you how many I shot (IF any!), but I flushed 14 birds in 85 minutes last evening...been flushing a bird every 12-15 minutes on average so far this season...been in the woods about 30 hours so far, flushed 150+ birds...killed 7, shot at about 30 +/-....been lots of fun! Heading out again this afternoon...my new (to me) Uggie grade III 16 gauge with 26" barrels and weighs 5.75 lbs has been fun...choked SK1/SK2...can't wait to hunt roosters with that gun!

Similar hunting here BB, flushed a lot of birds and shot up a couple of boxes of shells. Lots of fun. I try and make several walks a day, if I'm up to it. Just short jaunts in prime areas.

Enjoy your hunting:10sign::cheers:

We went up to Lake of the Woods this weekend duck hunting. We huted until around 1:00 then headed back to camp. I went out for a short walk in along a swampy edge lined with evergreens with my springer Ellie at 5:00. By 5:38 we had actually shot our limit. I have grouse hunted twice before, but had never actually shot one until Saturday.

I probably won't be able to duplicate that for the rest of my life....

Slightly jealous. Between work and job hunting, I have little time for any hunting unplanned a month in advance. It's driving me nuts. I can't wait to go out on Sunday's.

I have let a bunch go this week. When a person is putting the sneak on a bunch of ducks or geese. You just have to let the grouse go if they jump and I have jumped a bunch. You have to get off the well used trails though. Around me, especially on the weekends. A truck or 4 wheeler goes by about every two minutes.

Great job Jeff. Shooting a limit of grouse is not a easy thing that will happen very often.

VZ, tough times for many in the job market. Wishing you the best in your searches. Hope you get some time to go chase a few birds

Grouse hunting looks to be pretty good this year in parts of WI. Took last Thursday afternoon off to hunt with a buddy and his springer. We had about 2 dozen grouse flushes, shot 5 and 4 woodcock. Missed a few, too, as usual. Had a great hunt.

Christened the 28ga yesterday, now working on the 410. almost got it done this morning but the one bird I seen jumped as I was pulling up and he was gone like a 59 Cadillac. Haven't been feeling so well. I'm only getting in a short 10-15 Min walk each day.

Sorry it took me so long to report after my weekend up north in Wisconsin. It was extremely warm last weekend for us. Temps hit 80 degrees. Mornings were certainly best. Didn't get into a ton of grouse but the woodcock certainly made up for it. We ended up with 16 woodcock and 2 grouse. Without dogs, we would have lost at least 10 of the birds. Those things are hard to find even when they are shot close to you. Good weekend...could have been way better if the temps had worked out better.

Danier, I was up there hunting grouse last week too though I think I was south of you a bit. I only hunted for a day and a half because the temps were too high. Still a good time. Only flushed 5 grouse and 4 woodcock. It was just me and my 10 month old chocolate Lab "Winston". He manage to flush the fist grouse in the first hour of hunting. That made it all worth while, not to mention the fall colors. Beautiful stuff up there!:)--1pheas4

The 410 is christened. I took the little girl in my crocks and house pants and took a little hobble off the yard where I have shot many grouse over the years. I was using Federal steel game and target #6 3" 3/8oz 410 shells mod choke in my Cynergy(3 gauge O/U). I shot the shot of my grouse hunting career. The bird jumped out of a big spruce right in front of me and flew at me and to my right, went by me and behind me. I had to snap shoot in a full swing to my right and behind myself without moving my feet. Just as I was to run out of swing and a birch was to block any further view of the bird. I fired, he went down in a trail of feathers. I broke both his legs, one wing and busted his gut access cavity. All that damage with 3/8 oz of steel shot from a 410...unbelievable. I have now put meat on the table with all three gauges of my 3 gauge Cynergy. That's fun stuff right there.

SUNOVA.... That's frickin awesome. I'm jealous as he!!. I can't nock em down with my 16 ga, let alone a 410. Nice shooting. In sweat pants no less... Should be a law against that. :D

Good for you Chuck, That is something that a lot of never get a chance to do. Me for one, I'm jealous.......Bob

Looks like a blast! My weim and I will be heading up to northern MN next weekend for some of the same. Great looking weim, amazing dogs!

there is nothing better then a 410. My dad bought me one at a auction once $25 and I still love that gun it is well beat up and rusted but that dang thing shoots straight. Fun guns. Your 410 is way nicer then mine.

I grouse hunted today and boy is it dry up north. We saw 5 birds right away and Ms Goldeneye was able to shoot one. This would be her first year hunting and first grouse.
The pup ran like a champ all day but got torn up from the thorns pretty bad. I put his vest on him but it just doesn't protect it all. Anyway nice day today got a great bird and spent all day with the pup in the woods it was wonderfull (better then work) Ya I took Minday off also. I think I will try my luck duck hunting

Andy L good luck to you keep us posted

Goldeneye, how'd the ducks go for you? We saw mainly teal and only a couple greenheads. almost disappointing, but still fun and makes me more excited because we saw roosters moving from the public ground to the corn and they were nice. I wish I had brought my phone out, but left it in the truck after taking a little fall the first time.

Northern Iowa is also very dry. The pond we hunt is about 6 inches or a foot shallower than last year.

410 strikes again. One huge grouse. This is a old bird

Dang you and that wicked 410. Nice bird once again. Next year i'm kid napping you for a grouse hunt. :D

I Love the Teal good eating. And Green heads also? Sounds like a great day. I'm surprised N. Iowa is dry we have not had rain either for awhile but the lake are high.
If the pond is not working for you move you can't hunt ducks that aren't there. Bring your camara sometimes I get No ducks but good pictures so it's all good then.

this may not be the thread to put my duck pics from today. I'll put them in the duck opener Onpoint started thread.
