Put the whole farm in CRP?

It's become apparent that farming is not in my DNA as much as habitat. I'm throwing in the towel! Pheasant Farming is the thing for me:cheers:

CP-25 here I come!

Ahhh cool:cool:
Someone else will have to raise the crops, I'm farming for the wildlife.

New International Version

"'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.'"

We prefer to harvest it and donate a semi-load every year to the needy, most farmers around here do.

You did notice that it did not say you were suppose to leave your land idle but harvest it. Meaning you should plant it. :D

Maybe henhenRoster need to opine on this one.

Says here every 7th year fallow or idel the land in the year of Jubilee.

The Sabbath Year- Leviticus
25 wThe Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, 2 “Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When you come into xthe land that I give you, the land shall keep a Sabbath to the Lord. 3 For six years you shall sow your field, and for six years you shall prune your vineyard and gather in its fruits, 4 but in the seventh year there shall be a Sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a Sabbath to the Lord. You shall not sow your field or prune your vineyard. 5 yYou shall not reap what grows of itself in your harvest, or gather the grapes of your undressed vine. It shall be a year of solemn rest for the land. 6 The Sabbath of the land1 shall provide food for you, for yourself and for your male and female slaves2 and for your hired worker and the sojourner who lives with you, 7 and for your cattle and for the wild animals that are in your land: zall its yield shall be for food.

Uguide you rock! I'd go for it if I was you! I can honestly say both the pheasants and the future generations would appreciate it :)

x2.

I was curious to see how your would strike balance, but going all in will sure make things easier. While it might not maximize you're profit, it should help maximize your pleasure.

Chris, as I've stated in the past we continually make the mistake of believing "we know what is best". We know from the lessons explained in the garden, Adam and Eve where the first to fall into this deadly trap and it continues on to this day within all of us. What ever it may be.

As far as our land and wildlife are concerned, we are once again at the point of "we know what is best". It's a matter of time before we fall and pay a heavy price for our actions and the actions of others.

The penalty will be paid by all. Humans and wildlife alike. It is at this point, the point when we once again realize our mistakes that we pick ourselves up and start all over again. --Hopefully

The lesson will remain for a few generations, then, once again, we will fall into another trap and start all over again. Around and around we go. I suppose it's just our nature;)

That fits nicely into the category of those who fail to study history are bound to repeat it! I'm uncomfortable with the Biblical right or wrong arguements, to often religion is used to justify almost any concievable action. There are those voices which urge us to be reasonable and accept whatever the farmer believes is appropriate and willing to do, be it clean water, wildlife, erosion control. Whatever they do affects a great deal of the rest of us. It can be positive or negative. Everybody affected and involved should get a say. That's why we call it public policy. As far as the flight from CRP and the broken commitment to the PF chapter, I guess we got a pretty good idea of what some of these farmers are "willing" to do. I don't think it will be enough. I appauld the brave loners here, who re-enroll the contracts, preach the conservation sermon, rage at the storm of destruction, believe there is more to quality of life than accumulating quarters. These people are our only real hope, and the true believers, ridiculed by their peers, sometimes by their banker, these guys have a vision, that vision is in the battle for the future of the sport and the country, they have planted the flag right here, and declared, loudly, that the destruction stops here, the change starts now, I thank heaven each day we share the planet. My hat's off gentlemen, you know who you are. For the rest we welcome converts!
