Public Success

Had a good opening weekend out west. 6 of us and 4 German Shorthairs hunted public ground and finished with our limit. A lot of walking, a lot of work, a lot of missed shots, a lot of good dog work made for a good Saturday. Didn't get to a single field that people weren't in or leaving as we got there, never seen so many hunters.

Sweet Pic's!!!!! And nice dogs!!:coolpics::10sign:

Awesome post! I'm headed up to KS on Wednesday for 4 days of hunting...hope we have similar luck! We'll be doing public land as well, so this was encouraging for me to see. We'll have about the same number of guys, but we'll have you beat on dogs...I think we're taking about 8 of them.

Great Pics! I'm getting itchy to go down there now can't wait good luck with the rest of the season.

Glad to hear the public lands are producing such success. If you don't mind me asking, what part of the state were you in? I'm making a trip up there in late Dec with my new dog (GSP as well) and was trying to figure out where to go. Thanks!

Couple of added comments-

Brother in law shot the jackrabbit when the dogs were nowhere close, he wanted to take one to show my niece and nephew who haven't seen one, don't typically do that around the dogs. :)

5 of the 6 of us were carrying Beretta 391's. They didn't help a couple of the guys, including myself a couple of times, but I haven't found a better pheasant gun. ;)

We were hunting where the state said we should be hunting, along with caravans of others. Even at the end of the day we were hunting in sections that had others parked on the other end. I don't think we went by a WIHA that didn't have at least a couple trucks parked in it.

Talked to a group on our way home that had been around Pratt, they said the pressure was just as bad there.

Pressure was just as bad a county south of you too......oh, and clear out past (SW) of Dodge. There were hunters EVERYWHERE!

Glad you all had a good time & THX boys for making me feel a little better at having missed out on all the opening-day circus! Now I don't have to sulk/pout quite as much... ;)

Great post, love the pictures!

Thanks for sharing, helps brighten me up as I ponder our dismal bird numbers in Iowa this year.
