  • I have had some good days pheasant hunting at 'Slough (Muskrat). Back in September 2006, I ran my setter there on the grass on the south side prior to the season to condition him and I can recall one particular day where we had silly numbers of roosters flushing; it was crazy for around here, something like 30+ birds all getting up at one spot in there. Nothing like that this year; even with the awesome habitat there, the horrible weather/poor hatches have taken their toll.
i went 2 muskrat the last weekend of pheasant last year n saw 1 hen. my friend had relatives north of animosa we stayed with.
Yes, used to do more duck hunting in the past, just getting back into it this year-since the pheasant hunting is so bad around here. I got out a few times this year, had a good day a week ago Monday, got into the Teal pretty good over at Muskrat.
my brother is a cop in cedar rapids. we usually duck hunt in green island. that is n of clinton. do u ever duck hunt?
    Hello,

Yes, I am an engineer at Rockwell. I have an english setter, he just turned 9 and is starting to slow down. I do most all my hunting on public land within an hour of town. I do usually take a trip or 2 to NW or NC part of the state each season. Much better bird numbers up there.
    Iowa Tallgrass,

I just found this site and registered. I see that you're an electrical engineer in Cedar Rapids. Do you work at Rockwell Collins?

What kind of dogs do you have? Do you do much hunting around here?

We've found some around here, mostly on private ground. However we have a found a few public spots holding some birds.

    Have a good one,

    Jon
