Preferred/best pheasant shells?

Not really sure why this was posted in the Minnesota thread.

Regardless. I use Federal Premium lead in #6 shot. Either Prairie Storm or Wing Shok that's 1500 fps. I use an IC choke all season, all my shots are 30 yards or less.

I'll do a second on Joe Hunter's post. I reload that same load-1.25 oz, 1220ish fps, #5 magnum shot. My "fair weather" pheasant gun is a 7lb Winchester 101 and I don't need the heavier recoil of heavier, faster shells that the ammo marketeers are pushing now. I also shoot those reloads in my "foul weather" pheasant gun, a first generation Browning Maxus 12G.

I’m now committed to using up what I have…12, 16, 20, 28…goal is to have no ammo, then go box by box…serious. I still have my dad’s stash going back 50+ years…I use it if it makes sense. I keep steel wool in my van’s, I find ammo in vests, in my garage, etc, that rusts on the base, I buff it with steel wool and use it up…

If cost didn’t matter Federal Premium #4 Been using Pheasant Max Plus 1500 fps #4. Scheels has them on sale for $2 off a box making them around $16.

I have ammo that's 20 or 30 years old. I still use it.

I put together a similar load, but with a bit more Longshot. I have not shot across the chrony, but I think they were supposed to be if 1400s fps. Most pellets pass thru.

I've had ammo go bad on me. Turkey loads. It costed me a nice tom too. It was Winchester Longboard XR that was about 10 years old.

I won't be using shells that are more than a few years old anymore now.
