Can I hijack my own thread with some waterfowl action?

My 11 year old daughter got her first game animals today, a gadwall and ringneck. My 14 year old boy is really becoming a decent shot. And my 7 year old shorthair has retrieved 22 ducks in 3 days this week as we visit the grandparents in laws in Texas.

That's a trip to remember.

There's always a lot of talk about Kansas' WIHA program. This was my Friday hunt. 1 pheasant, 4 quail, all from WIHA, hunting by myself for about 4 hours. With results like that this late in the season, I'll thank them for the program rather than shame them for it.

I agree. I just returned from my first trip of the season, got 7 roosters and 6 bobs over 3 days, also hunting solo with one dog. Not bad, if you ask me. And for all the complaints about "not worthy" WIHA properties, I only saw a couple that were either mowed to nothing or turned over. Most were between decent and very good. Here's my KS rooster limit on Saturday plus 3 bobs - my best day.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I should have had at least twice that many quail. There were bobs pretty much everywhere I hunted, but I'm a pheasant-first kinda guy, and don't really bother with the quail until I'm done with the big boys, but I'm here to say - there were a LOT of bobs out there.

November or December 2021. Clocked him but he kept going around the end of a thicket. Ran as fast as I could around the end of the thicket, in the 10" snow, to see if I could catch a glimpse of where he went. Nothing. Walked up there and found where he had landed and where he had trudged through the fresh snow, but then the trench ended shortly before a small tree/bush. Honey went on point on the other side of the tree/bush. But nothing got up. I finally went back to the trench and saw his tail sticking out, down in the trench, where he had dove down under the snow. Honey dug him out, and I snapped the photo.
