Pheasant Mounts (HELP)

I have 2 birds that I took in to the Taxidermist 10 months ago and I have 2 more months until my birds come up on the list. I want them together flushing, one above the other. I have found a couple photo's I sort of like if you can imagine one being higher on the wall then the other one and the lower bird further out from the wall. If any of you have some nice flushing mounts you would like to share and maybe give me more ideas I would appreciate seeing them. Here are the 2 poses I am leaning toward, above one another! I do not want an open beak though.

beaks

think that you will find that when roosters flush that their beak is open whether they are squawking or not, would bet on it

cheers

I have two birds mounted like this. The owner's picking his roosters up this evening, so I may not get a photo up--but what I did was mounted each rooster on his own piece of driftwood, one with his chest out--beak open, the other with his back out--beak closed.

I used a heave gauge wire so the birds are "pulled" away from the wall about 1 ft. This gives them an air-born/flushing look.

They won't be placed one above the other, but one on the left side of his wall and the other on the right.

Either way would above/below or left/right will look good.

Just a quick edit here---gotta get to work! lol Anyway, I mounted this bird for a guy in PA. It's not one of the two roosters I described above, but thought you might like his "flushing" position for one of your birds (possibly??). He's not on driftwood, so he's not pulled away from the wall as the other two are, but buy all means you can tell your taxidermist to do whatever you'd like with your roosters. Hope this helps!.

Maybe so , just think it would be a maintenance nightmare. It already takes a full day a month to dust all my mounts. I have too many and have given some away. But when you get one that is just amazing it has to be preserved. Mustif do you have any photo's you would like to share? I know you guy's have to have something! I have seen some mounted on an elk antler that were pretty sharp.

Here is a picture of a picture of the first 2 birds I mounted myself when I was 18 !!!! Found out quickly I needed more patience!!!!!

I do like that!!! Wheels are turning!!!! Thanks!!!

bleu; those aren't too bad for first birds;)

I know you want flying mounts, but just to throw another idea your way:D---the mount below isn't finished yet---I still need to place a bird on top of the fence post.

The down fall of a mount like this of course is the amount of table space needed. Hope I'm not making things too difficult for you.

Here is one for you!!

LOL.......Now see, that right there is a conversational piece right there Bleu:cheers:.

You know that is the only time I can hit them, after they have had a few!!!!

I like the action in your wings. Feathers are always moving and no one typically shows much movement in feathers especially primary wing feathers. This taxidermist is going to hate me. In the end it should be a nice show piece if he gets everything I am thinking of!!! You have been a big help!! If you run into any more feel free to show me.

Here is one with some good feather movement! I would change the head position a little and maybe wing angle slightly.

I like that mount;)

Yeah, I'm with you on the curled primaries look.

Wild Ringnecks are an explosive bird when they flush. Curling their wing feathers complements that characteristic in my option. Either way, everyone has their preference I'm sure you'll be very happy with your roosters when they return home.

Just for the fun of it, below are photos of live birds flushing. One with wing feathers flexing with the pressure/force, the other with his wing feathers in a "natural/relaxed" positions.

Bleu, I have one like this at the lodge. My all time favorite. Never get tired of looking at this one.

Chris, that is impressive!!! I would of never thought of having 2 scrappin' !!!

Getting closer!!! What a long ass wait!!! Taxidermist sent me a pic of the first bird. Said the total mount should be done in a couple weeks with both birds.:):)

Which taxidermist did you use?

flight and feather taxidermy , here in town. I Have been looking at a guy in Trinidad, Co. BirdManStudios( Todd Huffman) Taxidermy. Check him out, he has 90 day service for 100 extra bucks.

Mine is similar to the previous - mounted with a wire in the back. The bird appears to be either landing with wings cupped and feet down, or just taking off. It's out from the wall about 4-5 inches.
