Pheasant hunting out of season

Try this one out my friends. I pulled into a field yesterday morning to haul cornstalk bales. Whats in front of my eyes a hunter with a shotgun and a german short-hair. I was like wtf. Are u kidding me? This circle has all walk-in access on four corners. You guys tell me what he was hunting. Out of area plates. He just acted like he owned the area. I turned him into the dow but have no idea how it turned out. Still stumped what the hell this person was doing. Looked like pheasant hunting to me!!!!

There is the slim chance he was seeing snow geese in the area and was pass shooting or maybe purchased and released birds to hunt???? Walk in expires on a certain date!!!! Maybe had permission!!??????

@epm: ANYTHING is possible - could've been a clueless looneybin or an outlaw poacher finally getting around to a little wild rooster chasin! :D  As bleu said, an outside chance there could've been some legit reason such as the hunter had permission & was releasin birds - or the specific property in question held a "preserve" license which enables a landowner who yr round releases/supplements a certain amount of birds, to allow extended hunting for both wild & released birds on his property thru either end of Feb or March (4got which one). I personally know of two separate landowners/properties where the latter takes place, but neither one is "SOUTH OF YUMA" (HAHAHA-WOOHOO-HEHEHE-HOHOHO, LMAO - be4 this is over with everybody & their dog in CO is gonna be headed straight for the land of sandhills & yucca)... :p

I heard a similar story on Wednedsay from some very credible guys at PF. It's probably the same story. They said a guy saw another guy walking out of a walk in access field with a rooster in his hand. Someone stopped to talk to him, and he was proud as can be. He also said he limited out the day before. WTF ?!?! So the guy reported it to DOW. It turns out that because the walk in access signs say open until 2/28, the guy thought the season was open through the end of the month. What an idiot! Needless to say, he has a nice fine coming his way.

Thats crazy maybe it was the same fella. I know the dow officer said he had busted a group of guys the weekend before for pheasant hunting. Crazy the people dont realize the season dates. I dont think they are intentionally poaching. But idiots for sure. The birds are taming down quite nicely now so probly fairly easy to get limits again. LMAO!!! Anyway just thought I would share cuz I was definately in shock.

Maybe we all missed out on that special season!!!!!!!!!!! And I do mean SPECIAL!!!!!!LOL:cheers:

Sure wish I could get out there for one last hunt for wild pheasants....maybe the guy just couldn't contain his hunting urge and decided to take his chances.
I'd guess the guy was smart enough to read the signs, but not smart enough to read the printed regulations. It's possible he was after rabbits, but not if he's got a pheasant in hand.

Ahh that makes sense. Why do the signs have different dates?

The land can be hunted for other species in which that date is longer then pheasant. Some say Feb 28th which I believe is the last day of rabbit and some go to the end of March for snow goose!

Seems like that kind of violation should earn a revocation of hunting privileges for a long time. I don't believe anyone is that innocently stupid, now willfully defiant of the law, I'll believe. Also have always found this sort of thing is a local problem, no sportsman is going to drive several hundred miles, stay in a public motel, prommenade about the area with bird dogs, and paraphenalia, in the off season. This has all the earmarks of "the local trash", who believe they can tresspass anywhere, jacklight deer, fish your ponds without permission, and clean out your tool shed when they know your not around. It goes on everywhere, and is one of the dirty little secrets of rural life.

:DSo true ON,
Often the case of problem makers is our own local bunch, not the non resident that is often portrayed as a bad guy. they are usually up standing contributers to the economy. I know plenty of ding bats here. But there was a time when I did something similar. They did something goofy to our times you could duck or goose hunt till, sundown, 4 pm, what ever it was. I read the book through and through. I had it right, but in a another section the season did not open till sundown or something until a week later. I went out on a Friday and sat near a gravel road to pass shoot geese. Nice eve, I thought, where the hell is everyone???? this is peaceful:D not another soul. There is always some, and we all race to the good holes to hide in.:D so I was in heaven. Never fired a shot. went home and called a friend and asked where he went. He said he did not go because you can't till next Friday eve. I'm like What the? he said yeah you have to get this new waterfowl supplement booklet.:confused: OK but why the hell is it not in the waterfowl MN regulations that you pick up at every convince store???????? I wiped the sweat off my brow, and a schwewwww followed. ding bats had it wrong. Now I guess they did not give you a ticket that week and it was basically harmless. but they can get confusing here. They do it all the time here, I gave up on deer, it's too confusing. You guy's would not believe it.
Season, date , limit, trespass laws please. thats all we need.

I dont want to be an ass but it wasnt local trash. It had an up west plate. Cant tell ya where but it is what it is. Im not pointing fingers for sure. But I know a local plate. Im still not sure why this individual didnt check out the regs is all I can say. Dow officer said he busted a group last weekend but I probly mentioned that already

I believe you englishpointerman, the locals I refer to are to cagey to get caught, or shot their birds in September. Hunting in February out in the open, on unfamiliar ground, is a bonehead amatuer move. Still need a lifetime revocation, if for no other reason than being stupid.

Rabbit & squirrel are still open here. Some people take their dog with hunting, just because they are buddies and do everything together. To each his own, I just mind my own business.

I am kinda with you on this one. I would have been neighborly and asked what they were hunting and if they were having any luck. If they were hunting game out of season I would have told them about it They may be rookies and got confussed by the sign, dont think I would have narc until I at least had the facts.my 2 cents;)
