Pheasant Fest 2025 KC

I enjoy bbq when I am in KC. I haven't been to Slap's, Danny Edwards or Meat Mitch, I will have to try them and haven't heard of Scott's Kitchen, so will add it to my list.
Meat Mitch and Char Bar are owned by the same guy, Mitch Benjamin. Char Bar is the cloth napkin BBQ place, Meat Mitch has more BBQ joint vibe. I like Meat Mitch of the two.

Get to Slap's early; there's usually a long line for lunch and they do sell out of some stuff. Danny Edwards is busy at lunch too.

It isn't meant to be a flea market or swap meet.

I know. I thought it would be more like that. I wanted to buy ammo and a vest and the offerings on that sort of thing were slim to none.

I shouldn't bad mouth it so much, it just wasn't what I was expecting it to be.

Some excellent BBQ suggestions in this thread. I love to see people who know they way around the KC BBQ scene. The other standouts that haven’t been mentioned (and all the ones mentioned are excellent) are Chef Js, and Wolfe Pack. There’s also a phenomenal taco and street Mexican food scene in Kansas City, Kansas, the likes of which doesn’t exist in the Midwest outside of Chicago (though I suspect southwest Kansas is not far behind) .

Those that visit should be sure to try some of KC's notable BBQ joints. While it's always easy to start an argument about the "best" BBQ, it's hard to deny that KC has developed a world renowned and well-liked style.

Arthur Bryant's and Gates are two that reach WAY back into KC Q history. Jack's Stack has made a name for itself along with Joe's Kansas City, Q39, Slap's, Danny Edwards (kind of a sleeper), Meat Mitch.

I've been to all those and more. There's no bad BBQ here; some is just better than others.

For those of you rushing in and out of the airport, another sleeper is Scott's Kitchen which is minutes from the terminal.

Enjoy!
Everyone of those have something I like. Slap’s meat is pretty hard to beat, the lamb ribs and beans at Jack Stack are my favorite, the slaw at Joes is great. There is a little spot on K32 in Bonner called Roscoes with great sauce and the ribs at LC’s are really good. Yes I have eaten at a few of them.

Just said something to the wife that we might attend. Watching the weather. Lots of guns and clothing in Sioux Falls last year.

Ha - having lived in SW KS for a couple years and still my favorite place to hunt -- I'd say their Mexican food in the state is by far the best -- but probably tied with the Hispanic neighborhoods in KC and Wichita both. Wichita has some great stuff too. One I simply call the chicken truck parked permanently on a lot is amazing - the smell of the grills in the summer will make you do a U-turn to go back and buy something.

Good chance that I’ll attend Saturday. I did see there is a concert one night that I wouldn’t mind seeing though.

Was planning on going and even almost bought the tickets for the dinner and to watch Clay Newcomb speak. Then a work shutdown got moved to that weekend so I’ll be working all that weekend. Oh well.

There used to be fantastic fried chicken and great steak to be had in K.C.
I hope the natives will chime in on that. I have yet to have a steak in KC better than the ones I cook for our Christmas Eve dinner, but I am sure I haven't found the place yet, but would like to know.

try Jess and jims. been there forever, don't hear complaints. the vendor list and stage seminar schedule is out. at least 5 vest makers to hopefully try on. garmin is on the list, irish setter, and onx is doing a master class seminar. hope onx will let me in. several state of the quail seminars. that almost covers it for me.

Dogs....another thing they will have. A lot of different breeds and kennels will be there. Anything related to bird hunting and more.
I've volunteered twice at Pheasant Fest through my breed club. Once in Minneapolis and again in Sioux Falls. I'd have made the trek this year as I'm trying to be more active with my breed club but my dog will be having a litter in a few weeks so I can't get away.

It's always a good time talking dogs with people, especially when you have a rarer breed like a Small Munsterlander and get to educate people on your favorite breed

I don’t often go out for steak here (or anywhere). There is no reason too if you have access to a good butcher shop. There’s nothing a professional chef can do that you can’t at home.

There are some good fried chicken places but nothing worth making a trip for.

Someone had mentioned Jess & Jim's to me. Looked at their menu and it looks more my style. Don't get me wrong, I will eat one of those $100 steaks if someone else is buying, but I don't really get it spending that kind of money. Next time I am in KC and someone wants to buy me a steak I will suggest we go to Jess & Jim's

I hear you. For the last 45 years I have bought bacon wrapped filets from Kirby Meat in Dodge for Christmas Eve. It is my grandkids favorite meal.
Spent a couple years in SE Kansas(Frontenac with the mafia) and enjoyed the chicken in that area, especially Chicken Anne's.

I am going, and my pup will be in the bird dog parade. This is my first time at pheasant fest, I hope everyone supports me and Sage in the parade cheer her on if you see us! :)
