I agree have the refs or a designated NFL employee control all balls during the game.

In a way the refs are involved. They inspect each of the 12 balls provided by each team, checking condition and inflation pressure 2 hours before each game.

There are so many variables in this story and we don't know about most of them. Here is just one: Just how is the pressure checked--do the Ref's go to each teams equipment room and check the balls there and if so do they use the same pressure indicating device on all the balls or one owned by each teams equipment room. Just how accurate is the used pressure indicator and who makes sure it reads correctly---12.5 to 13.5 PSI is only .5 PSI each direction from the mean of 13 PSI--it takes a pretty good quality pressure gage to that--industry standards for insuring proper accuracy is what you use should be 4 times more accurate than what you check-- using a gage you bought at the local sporting good store is not going to cut it.

Gee does anyone see any way to work the above to your teams advantage and this is just one of many possible things you could do.

I still think even if the balls were at the max pressure of 13.5 PSI---same out come :D

Guess we'll have to see what conclusions, if any, the NFL ends-up with. I agree that the Colts would have lost in any event, but it makes one wonder if this anomaly existed in the Ravens/Pats game? If so, it could have made a difference in the 4-point spread. It's just a shame that this has impacted the pre-Superbowl activities. I'm sure that Belichick will use this as a motivational tool -- Pats against the world. For the record, I'll never believe that Brady is as pure & saintly as he attempted to present himself.

My opinion is..... why have an inflation rule at all??? Let each team (QB) inflate the damn balls to how ever they like them..... Too many useless rules. It's obvious the league wants to make this an offense orientated game. All one has to do is look at all the defensive interference calls to see that. So it would seem the football inflation rule is completely pointless IMO.

I guess the Hawks and their fans know how the Green Bay folks felt/feel.
I thought funny about the long explanation Pete gave for calling the pass play.
I'm not at all a Patriot fan, but man how dumb was that call? Hawks have "the beast"

I am a 'Hawks fan and that game deserves to be called a "Super Bowl."

SB XLIX Final Thoughts:
A magical second half of the season, two miraculous comebacks, and a final play call which seemingly defied sound football logic by a franchise that appeared to be a team of destiny plus a great interception by Butler. Now I can visualize what "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" really looks like.

I'm still not terribly fond of Brady, but the Pats had a good offensive game plan, Brady threw a multitude of exceptionally-accurate, difficult passes, Edelman displayed amazing moves, and the Pats put themselves in a position to eventually win.

It was an incredibly exciting game to watch up to the inexplicable play call and the unfortunate display of frustration that followed (it also served to apply the term "deflate" on a personal level.).

Congratulations to the Patriots on their victory and a heartfelt thank you to the Seahawks for a great season, even if it did fall one play too short.

The 4th quarter may have been Brady's finest hour as a pro. When seemingly nothing was working in the 3rd quarter to adjust on the fly and get the job done. I have to also hand it to Bellichick and his staff for realizing what match-ups they needed to do it. Brady sure picked on the side of the field where a replacement corner (a knowbody) had come in to replaced an Injured Jeremy Lane. To capitalize and seize the opportunity when the seahawks left Gronk with one on one coverage is unspeakable for the hawks.

The legion of boom came crumbling down in the 4th quarter.

As for the goal line play at the end....

Bevell likely called the play but Carrol ok'd it and Wilson's pass was a bit off. So you have IMO the wrong play, but one that may have been completed if the pass were a little more accurate.

I agree with everyone else, you give it to Lynch, if (and this is a big IF) he doesn't make it, you still have 2 more downs and a timeout left. Makes no sense and I assure you away from the cameras Carrol is kicking himself for what he knows was a terrible decision which cost his team a Superbowl victory. Nuff said.....
