Needing a new elec collar

if u hunt wooded ruffed grouse areas or standing corn or rolling terrin i can see uses for a gps maybe im wrong but most guys get gps collars to never loose there dog then finding dogs on point in the above mentioned terrain come in 2nd 1-2-5 sec delay it dose not matter at least i know wear my dog would be if lost... knock on wood ive never had a run away lost dog out in strange lands or state...

is garmin & tri tronics under 1 company now or who did garmin join or buy out etc???

I believe Garmin bought tri tronics, guessing the kept the name for the tri tronics followers...only a guess.
I lost my pup grouse hunting on a windy day around a cornfield with woods and swamp, I had no idea where he was, he was 6-7 months old and I was in a panic! I looked and yelled with no luck, I walked back towards the truck and he was sitting on the trail back to the truck like waiting for me, I was soooo happy to see him, especially with Wolves on camera up there, I went home and put up the money for the Alpha, nice piece of mind.
Lost him in cattails in SD last winter, he was on point and wouldn't move, I walked in to where he was and flushed the bird, wouldn't have had a clue where he was in 8' tall cats...and he was only about 40-50 yards deep.

last year forgot my sport dog only time in 3 years crazy windy decided lets walk standing corn near huge swamp & cattails lost my girl 10+ min shot twice left my hat & a shirt wear i last seen her headed for truck saying wish i had a gps collar hit corner of corn here come my dog was sit n there in view of my van... never seen as many birds on that public land as that day lol same day we did i again in the cattails & willows got 1 bird & drove 3+ hour back home to get collar...

ok garmin look/sound good to me will look at new sport dog tomorrow need 1 asap b4 saturday opener in MN

Can't speak for the newer Dogtra models but my 2002 T&B is built like a tank. 10 years old and still going strong.

Have an 01' tritronics still on the original batteries. Honestly I don't know what I'd buy now. Probably dogtra. Garmin makes me nervous.

I'm a Garmin/Tri Tronics guy. My G2 Field 90 bit the dust last Jan in NE, and I swung into Cabela's and bought the 550. 2 Labs, easy to run. Mostly, I think I love the lights more than anything...seems like even at home we're aireing dogs in the dark, especially in the winter...collars on, dogs out, lighted up, and I know where they are.

im a little nervous also with the garmin... compared to my sportdog the garmins beep tone is really quite i will never be able to hear it in the field like i was used to with the sportdog i could keep track of my dog most days with the tone beep... im curious on how well my dog hears this new quiter tone??? a + is i now have the vibrate option...

did your dogs notice the change in tone tbear??? or anybody that maid the change from sportdog to garmin/tri tonics

Good point. You have me thinking about one again. :D

Garmin makes me nervous.

There's always issues when companies merge and buy others out, and I don't have any first-hand experience with the Garmin e-collars, but I have dealt with Garmin product support and I was impressed. Good service alone can keep me as a customer because the trust it builds.
