Well all you Kansas rooster hunters, my son got his first pheasant this past Sunday 20 November out by Dodge City.

We are going to get it mounted when we get back.

It was pretty cool....there are a few roosters still around down here ;):p

We ended up after two and half days hunting (with 4 to 7 hunters) 24 birds. Not bad...I mean not up to the standards that I am used to, however not complaints.

it isn't about kiling birds, it is about spending time with my son, my friends, and my local buddies and getting away to hunt and spending time with my dogs.

And, Maynard, eating some good Dodge City steak at Angie's Bad Habit!!:10sign: We ate there Friday night, we always do when we come out.

We will be back out in January....

That's great. He'll never forget that first one. Shot my first at 11 or 12 and remember everything about it.

Congrats to Colton. I'm sure you were just as proud as he was. Definitely a couple of my best hunting moments when m y sons took their first roosters. My avatar on this forum is a pic of one of my sons with a rooster. Not his first, but on this one we had stopped to clean some birds. He heard some cackling over the hill and asked if he could go hunt them while my dad and I cleaned the birds. We said sure, he headed off over the hill, we heard two shots and a WOO HOO and he came back holding a rooster.

I'm sure Colton is hooked now, so you'll have a great excuse to go chase birds more often!:D

Congrats to Colton and his very cool dad for taking him!! My stepson Collin on who is 11 (aka.. RoosterBoy) also got his first rooster on the opener. Good year for the JV team!!!

:thumbsup:Nice pic. Congrats to both the boys. I hunted with a group over the weekend and a guy had his 11 year old boy with him. He got his first bird. Chalk up another score for the JV squad:thumbsup:

Outstanding! I hunted yesterday with my grown Son for the first time in 8 years since we last had the opportunity. Didn't see bird one & couldn't hunt long but we had a grand time & and we both bagged limits of what matters . . . watched my young pup work, time spent together in the outdoors, and most precious . . . what we love about each other.

Only thing that beats hunting with a son is hunting with him and your grandson! Congrats Colton. Good job Dad!:10sign:

Congrats to Colton and to you as well dad. Great job getting the kiddo involved in hunting. I was about the same age when I shot my first pheasant and that was about 30 years ago.

Retrvrman,
ha buddy ready to mount that bird for Colton, just drop me a line.
I got to know who was the happiest of the two, you are Colton, it is a memory neither of you will forget as long as you live.
