Mountain Lion

I would venture to way in that here in gove county we have at least 4 breeding pairs and those are the only ones i know of and can take you to meet a man who sees them on a regular basis

The mountain lion by Stockdale was spotted again.

I heard that "they" are saying it is probably somebody's released exotic pet because it doesn't show any fear of people and was spotted during the day again. I didn't ask who "they" are. But the theory sounds good to me... If it is an escaped pet, I hope "they" capture it.

I read on the Missouri Department of Conservation site that 90% of all reported sightings turn up to be false. They state most of the time it is a bobcat, coyote, or domestic pet. Just letting you know what they claim. If there are 4 breeding pair in Gove county, I hope this cat expert shoots and buries everyone of them.

I have a question for ya'll...and this time, it's actually a serious question, lol. Seriously though, what is the reason for the area 51 mentality as far as the department is concerned regarding mountain lions, or cougars, I guess...(If there are ANY mountains in Kansas, I haven't seen em yet). Seriously though, what is the benefit???

I don't know if there's any truth to this. But I was told by a KDWP employee that it was a liability issue. If a lion attacked livestock and Kansas has an established population. Then Kansas is responsible for compensation. Someone with more knowledge chime in.

I don't think it's an area 51 mentality at all. My opinion is they want solid facts that a lion is in a certain area before confirming it to the public. How would the KDWP look if they said "oh yes, joe blow saw a cougar in rural douglas county, we haven't checked it out but yes there are cougars in KS now that Joe reported it to us". Imagine what their credibility would be if they confirmed things off of say so.

Just like the bigfoot whackos, if they reported seeing one to the KDWP do you think they (KDWP) should confirm it off of a reported sighting or should they go out and try to find proof there was in fact one there.

I'm sure there are cougars in KS, but dang. If there were as many as people say we would be getting eaten alive. Every tom, dick, and harry has supposedly seen a cougar in KS.

Thats my point. I am sure someone on this site has seen a cougar in Kansas. Most all the claims on this site of seeing one or knowing or knowing someone who has seen one is false. My son and I believe we saw a cougar back in September. It was right before dark (we had just turned on the headlights) and it appeared about 50 yds in front of us in the road and quickly darted into a plum thicket. We drove up to it and he looked at in the plum thicket and said it was a young lion. But it was hard too see as it hunkered down and he just could not make out the tail so we could not confirm it. This was in a higher elevation, canyon filled area full of Mule deer, perfect cougar habitat.

Was it one, maybe. Maybe not. We will never know. This is the first time I have posted about it. Nor did we spread the word on it. Most would just claim to have seen it. I am sure we have a few here. I would suspect that they are in western KS as we have a mule deer population. Much more likely out here than in the eastern part of the state.

1986 my wife, my two sons and myself saw a mountain lion at the ranch. First and only time. There have been 'sightings' over the years including one in the last year a quarter mile from the ranch. I have a dozen trail cams out, but none have ever shown their face on the cam. Plenty of other critters including bobcat, but no mountain lion. If one day I get a pic on a lion, I will surely post it.

I know the guys very well and believe them I really don't care what you think. I've also know people that have seen them by the farm in Linn county for that matter. Don't worry they won't come to OK. Your dirt is to ugly!

SD GFP denied the existence of MT Lions until people started taking pictures of them in Rapid City.

When I was driving through Kansas last weekend...I'm pretty sure I saw Elvis making crop circles...

yea he was in a UFO. As has been said I'm sure that there are occasional sightings, but the majority are false. I remember a while back we had a thread going about how there was a huge KDWP cover up. You know one of those " my brother knows a guy, who has a sister, who cleans house for a guy, who met a woman, who slept with a guy, who worked for the KDWP one summer, and he told her that she could be killed if she revealed the source of the BIG KITTY COVER UP" you know one of them stories.
