Long tail feathers?

Last year I shot a rooster up at our cabin in north west Wisconsin in my neighbors frozen swamp, the fence line and swamp grass along the edge of a cut corn field held 4 roosters and about 10 hens. I missed the first rooster, my 13 yr old son got the next 2 so I took the dog to the area the first one landed across the swamp, when he flushed I got him this time and after the dog retrieved him for me I was shocked at its size, it was huge! We measured the tails at the cabin 28.5" needless to say he's on the wall next to my seemingly small 25" now. Any body have any giant tails I'd love to hear about them! I'll post a pic once I figure out how.

Would love to see the pics along side a yard stick!

Don't think I've ever gotten anything close to that long but I have shot a bird that seemed to be half turkey one time. It was over twice the weight of the other birds we shot. ( we weighed it)

I forget exactly what they weighed now but that one bird was on steroids or something.

Pretty sure this is my longest ever. I never really paid attention until recently. This one stood out. It measured 24.5 or 25.5, I have it in my garage somewhere.

I hear stories about 28"+ feathers, but never seem to see pictures.just like people catching 15 lb walleyes that dont seem to have a camera near by.

Also, how do you know how long it is without pulling it from the bird?

Back in 1982 I went up to Chamberlain, SD with a buddy. His Grandparents lived there. We were up there to Pheasant hunt and they had a Long tailfeather contest at the hardware store. My buddy got one that I was sure would win at 28.5 inches. Long story short he was beaten by 2 others that were longer. We were both 16 at the time and it was nice our parents actually let us go by ourselves to SD from Colorado. Probably doesn't happen much any more.

you don't start measuring them from the beak you know

cheers

Very nice rooster 94NDT! How did you get that pic on here? I'm trying from my phone and can't get it.....you guys won't believe this either but I don't have a computer. Without saying it apparently birds like this don't exist, and because I haven't shot a 200" booner they must not be real either. So I'll stop dreaming of a 2 lb crappie..... Thanks guys
Oh and small munsterlander owner if you've only heard of 20-24" tails come to our crappy public land in wis, we shoot them every weekend.....what a joke!

We were just goofing. I had a rooster I raised that had over 28" tail feathers a few years back and I've shot a couple around 24-25 myself, I've also caught many 2lb class crappie.

Down load the photobucket app on your phone and move pics into it and use the img link from pb to post pics here.

I don't have a 200"er, but I do have a 15.5" crappie on the wall (I think it's about 2.5lb) that is possibly the worst mount you have seen in your life.

I loaded the picture to photobucket.com if you have a smart phone you can download the app, then link it to the site.

Don't have a pic but my biggest crappie to date was just over 20". Not sure what she weighed and hopefully she's still in the lake making lots of babies. To bad we can't shoot and release those old long tails.

See, like this guy. Caught a world record crappie, put it back, no big deal.

....I do believe the world record crappie is 20" so it would be damn close.

21 (it was a white crappie). She was just post spawn and pretty skinny. I've caught fat 18" blacks that probably weighed more. Crappie that big aren't fit to eat anyways so they're put back to make babies.

Oh dang I forgot about the white crappies.

I'm sure there out there, I just never see pictures of them. If I look at the pic of the one I shot, which turns out was 24", I cannot imagine it another 4.5" longer.

I didn't even realized states released birds to the public for hunting.
