Long Distance Traveling for Birds

I use a slide in truck camper, it is a 1987 model that I have retro fit over the years geared at bird hunting. 2000w Honda suitcase generator, led lights low voltage fans charging stations dual batteries everything totally separate from the truck electrical. 12v compressor, 12vfridge ,12v tv for news and weather, propane and electric heat. Everything is always with me nothing left in the trailer or motel. Have a total of about $3000 in the whole rig. Bucket heater for hot water that runs off generator with an outdoor portable shower. Over the years have found many county parks small fairgrounds etc. some with electric or water maybe a shower from 10 to 30 bucks. I have a network of spots mainly free with water and toilets that I am never more than 5 miles from WPA or WMA .

That is a pop up camper.

Sounds like a great setup

I use a 8.5 inch slide in truck camper. It has a bathroom, but I rarely use it.I boondock camp.If I need to dump mud,I do it anywhere, I don't care. I take lots of propane and water. Its actually a cool way to hunt.Bad gas mileage, no tv.I just camp wherever there is a decent place for the dogs. One time I accidentally camped on private property near hilger montana. This rube came out, and I told him I was a cop, and he settled down.

Boondock camping, goose style.

Dumping mud wherever he wants, camping wherever he wants, and pretending to be law enforcement. Which by the way, is a pretty serious crime.

Who's the rube now?

Tent camping sucks.Get a camper.Show some honor.
Maybe so, but I am going back to it. I didn't like towing a camper 3,000 miles. My AS camper weighs 3,200 pounds. My tent camper has a queen size bed, and vestibule for clothes etc. Camper weighs in at 1100 pounds. She rolls down the interstate at whatever speed you want to drive. It is clean and I don't hear the ...... slam doors at all hours. Better, clean sleeping. :)

That looks like a good setup. Trailering the RV just didn't cut it, eh? You going to SD this year?

I was kidding about that. However I'm not kidding about dumping mud wherever.

Is that a JumpingJack trailer? I see them up in the mountains around here during hunting season.

Ok I will start. For the last couple of years I have stayed at Airbnbs when traveling for Upland hunting. I gave up on hotels and motels due to people waking me up at 2 a.m. when they come stumbling In and banging doors. Or at 3:30 getting up to go set out decoys and banging doors.
Airbnb's have been ok, but they are a more expensive option. I have had a few problems with them also. I am thinking of getting a 16' Camper, easy to pull and have everything I need. When I am on the road, hunting, I want good sleep period. Your thoughts?
My thoughts are, I get good sleep with my camper, and I camp where the hunting is.Nobody will hasle you, just tell them you know Kenny olson.

Since this is about long distance traveling and I am about to do just that, what's the going rate for diesel out WY & SD way?

Thanks, Tom

One thing about traveling that resonates with me,is the time it takes to find a good quality hunting spot. That is where these blue blood hunting ranches come into the scenario. It does take time to scout, you have to knock on doors, and burn fuel.I can afford to pay these wine and cheese ranchers, but I refuse.
