Last Weekend - Must Hunt

Guess I'm stuck in traditions. The last two days of the season are a must hunt for me so I'm off to the Happy Hunting Grounds in NW. I'll get depressed if I don't <so sad>. :p Chokes are mod and full for the few very spooky birds. Trying to think up a strategy from field to field. If a certain group of cattle have been moved, should have some shooting in a weedy wind break that has not yet been hunted. Have a new permission in a currently low bird number area, but it might be worth a try. It's a wide and weedy fence row/terrace perfect for two guys and two dogs. Whatever the outcome, it beats hanging around town and wondering, "What if . . .?" Good luck to all who are heading out.

I will be heading to the central part of the state this time to try a new area as well. Wall to wall crop fields and someone finally put a half section crp patch in. Last time crp was rotated in this area several years ago it made all the difference. Have a few ditches and fencerows to hunt after that. So I got one day of hunting planned then one day unplanned. Day 2 will be an adventure. Or a death march, ya never know.

Good luck guys! We'll be at it on Sunday morning as I'm working ball games on Saturday.

Looking forward to the last hunt of the current season before starting a new countdown to next season.

Good Luck to all and post some pics and how you did . I am going with the fella who got me started on a Britts 36 years ago .

I started this morning. Hunted hard all day. Just kept the boys watered real well and did shorter walks once it got warm, then cool off for 30 min. Hunted the NC area today. Saw 2 pheasants all day. Did move 4 coveys of quail. 3 large coveys and 1 small covey. Ended up with a few quail. Back at it tomorrow but a different area.

I can tell you there are lots of people out on the WIHA's. Hotels have plenty of hunters as well. Good luck everyone.

How long do you hunt when it's 60 degrees?

Have to ration it for sure for the sake of my 9-year-old dog. It was mostly overcast with wind so that helped keep the dog comfortable.
