I hate this time of the year

So I was thinking how much I hate the after the holidays, new years, christmas blues. The gift returns, the back to work, exercise off all the food, beer and candy.

I did come up with the top three things though I don't like or look forward too when the calendar turns to January:

1) that hunting season is almost over for just about any game
2) that football season is almost over for college and NFL
3) that the IRS, Obama, and the Dems will coming after my hard earned money and taxes!!!

Can we fast forward to September???

Nah, let's just fast forward to May. Gotta have the summer to camp, fly fish, and wakeboard. But I can't argue that September-January is a special time of year.

Generally I would disagree with you, as January hunts tend to be my favorite. However, this year looks like it will be my last in phez country until at least 2013, and I'm definitely unhappy about that. My wife has been accepted to med school in AZ, so we're packing up and heading to Phoenix (ugggh!). There is still a chance she'll get accepted to a school in Oakland, CA, so we might be going there instead, but one way or the other definitely looks like we're leaving CO, and won't be heading any closer to the birds, unless you consider CA a viable pheasant state. Let me turn that into a question - anyone know about any decent wild pheasant hunting in the Golden state? I guess if it's AZ, I'll just have to start working on my quail tactics.

In the meantime, I have two more hunts planned before end of season, and I'm going to do my best to enjoy them! Sure hope we get some weather soon, though.

For the summer, there's trailer camping, and backpacking to flyfish but don't forget dog training, sporting clays, trap leagues and there's always golf.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves as there's 3 more weeks to chase those wild birds around--and boy are they wild. We need some more snow and lower temps out east to get them holding better.
