Farmer friend disced my 10 acre food plot 3x and planted it as well...what is a fair rate to pay him for his work?????? thanks!

Usually it is done calculated in number of passes over the field, in this case, 4 times, with 4 row crop type implements, time, fuel, etc. I have seen it done for anything between a gift card, up to $1000.00. I would ask him what was fair? He's a friend and neighbor, If he won't put a price on it, and you have to guess be generous!!!

It is about $20 an acre to plant and probably a little less to disc. It depends on what your friend wants so that he will do it again next year.

Many charge by the hour now. Man plus machine can run up to $150 per hour or more.

be generous, if you want him to do it again!
or if he likes to hunt or someone in his family, you know what to do...besides paying him!

Thanks all....I believe we had been paying $10/acre for disking and planting, plus the cost of the seed....this was the number given to us, but I suspected they were being a bit too low...I will just insist that they quote me a current price that reflects accurate costs...usually one or two farmers that I know end up doing my work for me, depending on whether they are done with their own planting, where they and their equipment are positioned relative to my ground, etc...they are all super guys and I just end up paying them all the same rate once one of them gives me a figure...I just don't want to be underpaying...thanks again.

When they are close like that and they do not have to Mobe in, it will save you money. I would just make sure you cover the cost of fuel and time plus seed and that may be all he wants if he is not really giving you a price. I guess the real question is, what is it worth to you?
