I was out your direction on Saturday. Ran the new dog just north of Billings and headed back Saturday afternoon. It was very dry out there. Beautiful country though!

How much walking was required to pop those guys? That's some vast land out there

I take lots of pics, I'll get some more loaded.
Walking was not far there are plenty of young Sharpies in the good habitat. 3 times I tripled on a covey only reason didn't limit my old pump has a plug 3 shells. These young birds fly slow and often come up 1-2 at a time.
My long hikes with the pup came after the 4th day out there, gun stayed in the truck and we took some long hikes, practicing flushing pheasant and grouse the pup had a LOT of practice. We also hiked the badlands and Breaks. Came across good numbers of Young Sage Grouse and Huns in the back country.
