Struck out on our gobbler hunt Friday afternoon, but still managed to have a good time.
Didn't see or hear a bird anywhere, which was disappointing, but hunting with my daughter is so much fun it hardly mattered. Got her pretty well stuffed full of oatmeal cream pies, sunflower seeds, and soda. Whispered the whole time about pretty much every subject she could think of. Plenty of smiles and laughs... We had hoped to try again Saturday morning early, but the rain kept us away. Hopefully we can get a few more tries before the season runs out.
The other good news is that we left the popup blind set up in a likely spot, so that should make it easier to get set up before first light or make less of a disturbance no matter what time of day we go.
P.S. That dopey hen turkey that wandered through the yard the other day was back again Friday evening. I think she is eating the food that falls from my wife's bird feeder. This time instead of going back into the woods, she flew up into a tree and just stared down at us. My daughter was really lobbying for me to shoot it, but I told her we weren't THAT desperate. Of course, if it turns out to be a bearded hen, that would be a pretty convenient backup plan...
