Has anyone limited out yet??

Not yet... My dogs still believe we will get a limit, and I will not argue. Headed out in the morning. If I manage to limit, I'll update this post. :D

Had some luck on the opener. Two of us shot limits.

Close, I got 3 in one day. I believe if a guy made it a priority to shoot a limit in the area I've hunted most he could do it, but he'd have to leave the kids at home and stay in the field for more than 4-5 hours. I'm going to head out there by myself as soon as I get a chance. I'll shoot 3 or 4 birds alone.

Sunday I should have had 3. It was the first time this year I've worn my full set of cold weather gear, so the first rooster got away when the butt of my shotgun got hung up on my jacket. Second bird ended up in the bag. Third bird fell, but we did not find it.

2 guys hunting together might luck out with 8 birds...it would be damn tough. as you add more hunters to your group, the more unlikely limits will be had by all...just to have 8 roosters in gun range in any one day would be outstanding.

My huntin' buddy knocked down four opening day - but bagged only three.

I remember a year in the late 1970's, bad reviews, and a bad year to boot. I walked into a field and had three pointed birds, the other one busted wild after the third, for a tidy limit. I assumed it would be that easy subsequently, Ha, Ha, spent at least a month and didn't see a bird, on the same ground. We saw quail, no pheasants, not even hens! Then early January, same thing a limit by 9:30 in the morning. The rest of the year a bird here and a bird there. Getting a limit in a bad year, fortunate location, and sometimes dumb luck. As they say, "it's better to be lucky than good". A little bit of both is even better! But you got to try.

Hello All,
According to this we had several outstanding days this past week in Kansas. Of course I would never base it on this statement because any time I am out there I consider it outstanding.
On Thursday with the blowing sleet, 28 degrees, nice and nasty, my son and I saw around 30 birds. We both had shots, I tried to get my son in the best positions when we had points so I took the "dregs". Didn't shoot limits but shot at them. Once I changed from improved cyl/mod to mod/full I started to tag almost everything I shot at the following days.
On Saturday had a quick 1 hour hunt; went into a draw that had two dips. Started walking the first one and heard cackling in the other. We doubled back quickly and put one up/down. My dog was still birdy in the same spot and I though he just smelled the one that ended up in my bag. Suddenly another rooster and hen get up and wiff, wiff. Then another, and my son and I both wiffed:eek:
Then our Britt started his I got one running down the fence line on me thing going. Followed him for about 150 yards and suddenly he locked up solid. Flush and with the gloved hands my safety/barrel selector decided to go full first and at about 20 yards he took a hard load of #5 on his back.
Had a great hunt with Kbritt, his boy and two pointers. When the website gets updated this weekend I will be able to post pictures etc.
Many more stories like our britt locking up on one side of a plumb row on the edge of a draw. I went to him and had my son on the other side in the draw. Got to my dog and the bird(s) was clearly on the other side of the plumbs; turned out there were at least 4 around 15 yards in (I never saw them but heard 3 roosters cackling away and a hen chirping on liftoff. My son got the shots which made me proud.
I'll let Kbritt tell about his son's new favorite draw north of the farmers that had 2 coveys in it that we chased the whole half section up with lots of success.
Sure it is an off year but that just makes every flush a and the people we hunt with special. I know I need to shoot some more clays or get on some Dove before the season starts and of course get the right chokes in for my style of shooting.
So, want to know where we hunted....Kansas Baby:cheers:

Wolfcreeknc.....great post and glad you and your boy found some birds.

Opening day my buddy and I each limited out by three in the afternoon. We killed every rooster that got up in front of us. Many were pointed... Next day not so good, we each killed one and missed three others. We knew the first day was too good to be true!

Limit

Saturday I got 3, shoot my 4th but lost him. Best day in years. If I could shoot would have had a limit in the first 1/2 mile of walking. Most days around here you are lucky to see 4 let a lone bag them.

Great picture point

POINT that picture brings back so many great memories from Kansas, havnt been there the last two years .Keeping my fingers crossed for better weather for yah.

I have been out three times this season, and have three birds. I guess one more trip and bird and I will have a limit!!.

I have went quail hunting 4 times and shot a limit 3 times and 6 one time. I am haven't made it out west yet as I am still busy farming. Hopefully will get to spend a lot of time out there in Dec and Jan. I shot a limit of quail this afternoon with my young dogs. I saw 5 coveys and all were nice size coveys. Its nice to see the quail rebounding some. All of the locals report seeing more quail around at harvest than in many years. On another note, some of the birds I shot today were very small, as in an August hatch most likely.

Good news! I've seen more quail this year as well.

Have yet to kill a rooster this year... But I have also not been to try!! Finally getting the opportunity to get out and see what the area looks like and how the bird numbers are. Hoping for better numbers than what I read about. Loading up the pups and were headed out solo tomorrow early morning for a few days ..
