GWP?'s

I recently joined this site and have found it to be full of great information. I posted an intro but will give a quick one again. I live in Sarasota, FL and lost my GWP back in June to cancer. So I am now ready to start my search for a new one.
That being said I have two questions.
First, the breeder I bought my girl from was Ray Brannon (Red Barron Wirehairs) but have been unable to find him. I don't know if he quit breeding or what? But any info would be great.
Besides that I am also looking for breeder recommendations. I know there are quite a few out there but I like hearing personal experience's.

Sorry I don't know much about GWP breeders. But if the one you had before had cancer, you might look at dogs from a different breeder. Sometimes the cancer deal is genetic.

Try gundogbreeders.com, gundogcentral.com, and gundogsonline.com . Welcome to the board and good luck with your search!

i have a breeder buddy in PA who is planning a litter soon also. his line is very sound....he's also a professional trainer. He's very active with NAVHDA as I used to be.

I would encourage you to check out versatilehuntingdogs.com, excellent site with much information. The site has a forum as well as breeder/ kennel sections et., etc.

I wouldn't just narrow your search to your current location

Thanks for the feed back everyone. I am pretty much willing to go anywhere in the country for a dog. So by no means am I limiting my search to the south. I drove to Iowa for the last one.
As for the cancer in the gene pool I did think about that. The cancer my dog had was a very rare form of cancer in dogs and not much is known about it. The treatment is a crap shoot and rarely successful. They were able to get me 6 more month of the best time I ever had with her.

I bought my GWP, Sadie five years ago from Ravenswood Kennel in Belle Plains, MN. She is the best hunter I have had so far. They have a wesite, very easy to work with. It is another choice to consider. Good luck in your search.

For an upland gwp try high island wirehairs in arlington, mn. John has some very well bred smaller dogs that I have personally hunted over. For a truly versatile gwp check griff's grassland in sioux falls, sd or thunder hills in superior, wi. I currently have a deposit in with griff's for a pup from the spring 2015 repeat breeding of 2 versatile champs from strong German lines.
