Gifts for hunters

So I need some ideas here. What are the kind of gifts when it comes to bird hunting that you wouldn't think to purchase for yourself, but would be ecstatic to receive as a gift?

I'll start: my favorite hunting gift I ever got was a set of bird straps, as pictured here. I never thought to buy one, but after they were given to me, I never stopped using them.

Nice pair of leather gloves
Compass
Nice leather belt
Nice lanyard

I was just thinking about this, except, it’d be for my buddy’s mom who always cooks for us. Multiple times a year, a big spread. Always delicious, always a lot of work. Im thinking some kind of customized sign about their “hunting camp”. To include her husband, who passed a couple years ago and was always in the hunting group.

One year I gave my buddy a custom leather shell pouch with his initials on it—big hit, functional and personal. Stuff like that adds a nice touch without going overboard.

If you travel to a different state, a personalized cutting board or rocks glasses from that state seems to be a good gift, even if it’s not actually used in the field, but used to serve the bounty of your hunt.

Dimock Cheese is always a favorite stop for the group I go to SD with.

Year before last I brought home a cutting board shaped like SD, a couple of etched rocks glasses and a cheese slicer from Dimock Cheese, along with a wide selection of their cheese blocks.

It’s always a good conversation starter back home when we serve pheasant poppers and diced cheeses at our fall and winter get togethers at the house.

For land owners it’s been cheese curds and Leinenkugels. For my hunting group, I made bird straps, over the shoulder waterfowl type.
For my fishing group it was custom hats and engraved filet knives from Custom Cutlery. No better friend than an old friend.

Stanley, the thermos people make a very nice 8 oz metal flask set that comes with four nesting shot glasses. I've given several of them away to friends and family over the years. They are one of those things that most wouldn't buy for themselves but like it as a gift.
